Budget Y-Pipe Illinois owners passing inspec.

Hey guys, I'm in the process of installing my y-pipe but then i stopped short because i noticed something. The budget Y-pipe came with a small pipe, about 8 inches in length that replaces the cat converter. That concerns me when it comes time for inspection. So my question is, especially for you guys here in Illinois, did you guys replace the cat converter with the straight pipe, or did you keep it. and if you did replace it, how were you able to past inspection ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks !!!

I didn't think IL actually tested the emissions but rather hooked up an OBDII scanner to check for codes?

On my car all they did was hook up the OBDII and check my gas cap. I would still run a cat but they don't do anything other then check to make sure you don't have any codes. And without a cat (also means no sensor in the cat) I believe a code is thrown although I could be wrong.

I passed just fine with a Y-pipe but mine from warpspeed never came with that straight pipe.

Thanks for the quick reply. So do you guys think I should just get rid of the cat and install the straight pipe then ?

if all they do is check for codes, then youll be fine with a strait pipe. but if you try and pass the sniffer test with out a cat, your NOX levels will be VERY high.

we can pass with the Ypipe and stock cat out here in cali, so if we can pass with it, anyone can pass with one.

With that being said, has anyone in illinois used the straight pipe. I only stress this because then i wouldn't have to worry then about taking the bolts carefully off the cat converter from the tube assembly (part# 20030+A). Also, I can't remember from the last time i had inspections, but i do remember about 6-7 years ago they would stick something on your exhaust. Is that how they still do it ?

If you have a 95 they will run the sniffer on you, 96 and newer is OBD scanning. Test pipes are and you'll become for using one. Unless you're boosted there is no damn reason to use it except to make your car smell like mule *** and to polute like 1960's v8s. It's stupid and pointless. Also, WRONG FORUM.

In West Kentucky the clerk at the Sheriff's office walks out to check your vin, odometer, and that all lights are functional... that's it...
