Always Drop Your Car Before....

"Always Drop Your Car Before You Put On Rims"

This is what I recently read someone say in a posting.

Is this absolutely necessary?
Is this just a matter of opinion/preference?
Would putting the wheels on first cause a problem now/later?

I finally got some wheels but i have to balance them and buy tires, so i dont wanna spend so much in a short period of time, would it be ok to just get the wheels done and then later (like next year) drop the car?

I don't mind the 4x4 look, plus New York Winters are crazy and i'll just have to spend more money later to raise the car come winter.

yea its fine to get rims and then drop later on, it also gives you an idea of how much harsher your ride will be if you upped the size, ive got 17in 2k3SE rims on my car with no drop yet, but its definitly coming soon, i to waited becuase of new york winters

The stiffer suspension that comes along with a drop will better control a heavier rim if you don't go light weight. It's mostly about looks though. A bigger rim (and therefore lower profile tire) will make the already huge wheelgap of the 4th gen look even worse.

I understand your points. I plan on putting on some 17" 2000 SE rims.

Would anyone have a picture of theirs on with out a drop?

So as to have an idea of what im getting in to and to what my car might look like?

Haha, I'll show you mines... Just got to wait till daylight and my camera. I have G35 Coupe 18's and the gap is hilarious. I pulled up next to a CRV... and my gap was only slightly smaller...

Lowering Springs will save you personal embarassment... but otherwise, the ride is ok. I agree with the difficulty spending a large amount right away. I'm also leaning towards getting springs b4 shocks because things just cost sooo much.

I had my rims on the car without lowering it for a few years. I actually liked how it looked (I had hubcaps so it was a big change for the better for me ). I was in no hurry to lower it. When it was time to replace my struts, that is when I decided to switch to the H&R's and AGX's.

Finished my drop last week, and the difference in appearance and handling was huge. It just looked bad without a drop. The setup is KYB AGX's with Tein s-techs - 2.2" in the front and 1.8" in the rear

Look at this picture, there is no GAP between the tire and the fender, bu there is a big A$$ gap between the body and the floor.

you dont have to get a drop but it would look nice

+1 on the prices though, its expensive for struts and springs these days.

Is this real? Wouldnt the wheel touch fender when taking corners?

My goodness. How are yall wheel gaps soo huge with stock ride hieght?? I have 17in on stock suspension, and I dont think mine looks as bad as some others on here. Yall must have some rediculously skinny tires or something. I got 235/45/17, and I kinda dont mind it.

Same size tires that I have now and had before the car was lower. I think the smaller tires leave a bigger gap.

I love the drop but want a tight firm suspension. Are Tein-s's as loose and bouncy as I hear?

Loose, bouncy? I don't think so at ALL. In fact, I'd term them tight and comfortable. Not as comfortable as B&G/H&R, and not as tight as Eibach, but truly one of the only spring sets that offers a truly EVEN visual drop. Eibachs left my front end sitting higher than the rear and were very tight. "Bouncy" is also more indicitive of poor struts than springs.

I do agree, neither of your cars look bad without a drop. Just might wait until next year for the drop, cuz its not looking absolutely necessary.

wheel gap used to be a real problem for me so i dropped the car, at the time it was on 17's. i still thought there was to much space so i opted to go with the 19's about 7 months ago. NO GAP NO PROBLEMS

Make sure you can cruise your streets before dropping though. I hooked up the Skyline front end before dropping and even then I had to avoid places I used to go often. San Antonio streets are up and down and several places have steep entrances that I avoided rather than mess up the bumper. Now that im going back OEM im getting her dropped. I would rather have no kit and a nice drop than a kit and a huge void stickin out of the well. Heres some pics, with the Skyline front she looks low looking at her straight on but she hadnt been dropped.

IT doesn't really matter if you drop or put the rims first unless you want to put extremely large rims and then it would be best to put the rims first and then see how much you can drop it.

Just do whatever you want. Unless others are going to help you buy the springs, ignore them.
