Worked on the headlight lenses tonight
I got the Maguiar's clear plastic cleaner. It worked very well in getting a lot of the crap off the lenses. I'm hoping the links I provide work. Not the greatest of pix, but you can see some of the difference it made.

They didn't look that bad to begin with.. I used a dremel with a buffing/polishing attachment, less elbow grease needed
Does anyone know if it does any harm in removing your headlights and bulbs, and then flush housing out, does it do any good without splitting housing open

Unfortunately pictures never do justice when you post them. The driver side lens is the photo I shot before and after. It was actually quite a bit more boogered up than it shows. The stuff really worked very well. And, as one of the fellas mentioned last night, the more I used, the better it got. Wasn't bad for a $6 fix and only a little elbow grease.

You got that right, Goalie. Thanks for your rather cheap (costwise) suggestion...lol. I'll do the tails tomorrow night. Tails aren't as whacked as the heads were. I'm going to keep on with the heads until they are as crystal as I can get them.

Pictures don't do justice to how ugly the lens looked prior to cleaning. You can see the difference, though. Look at the left side of the lens in each. You can see how scratched and cloudy the first one looked. The Maguiar's stuff works amazingly well. Just another reason why Maguiar's goes on my car...

Anyone know where you can order one from maybe?
What is the exact name of the Meguiars product you're using?

Just to name a few other applications of Meguires Plastic Polish: all of the lenses that cover the A/C display, Bose Display, Clock lense, and even the lense in front of your gauges. The stuff works wonders by taking scratches out in the places that need it. Good product.

You can thank GoalieKeg. He gave me the skinny on this stuff, my man.

Just the outside. The inside is most likely scratch and haze free unless you've pulled apart your headlights before.
:o)

I thought the insides would get some moisture, dust, etc. over time. No? Sure we don't want to have to take the headlights apart, I guess I was hoping the old sock on a stick trick would work! (through the light bulb hole).
:o)

I really see no difference and a product like what you used wouldn't really do much on a headlight anyway except make them shiny. You need some VERY fine, #000, steel wool and then you'll se what they should look like.
you will waste your money if all you will use it for is the headlights, it just doesn't work that well. Steel wool costs a few bucks but it will work much better. I have the plastick cleaner and all I use it for is my PSP, works on that, not much more.
Well, you're wrong in my case, Dave. The Maguiar's worked very well. I'm positive the very fine grit paper or steel wool would pull it all out, but as I said earlier the pix don't do justice to the improvement made. The Maguiar's stuff has a very fine abrasive in it and it did lift quite a bit of the crap off the lenses. I'm not disagreeing with your take on the steel wool, I'm simply stating that the stuff I used worked very well for this particular need. Not a waste of money.
Novus #2 Plastic polish (Fine Scratch Remover) works great on lenses too. Call 1-800-548-6872 for their nearest distributor. It's made for airplane windshields and motorcycle windscreens. Has some sort of silicone film that protects the surface and leaves a high gloss. For the interior plastic, Blue Magic works best for me. No abrasives and leaves a high gloss. FWIW...

Different things can be used for headlights if they are cloudy. Steel wool isn't necessarily the best way you would want to go in the abrasive world but it will work. I'd wetsand before I used steel wool, even if it's really light stuff.
Depending on how bad your headlights are, different people will get different results. But one thing that the PlastiX is good for is the final step of wetsanding. If your headlights are REALLY bad, then after a good wetsanding, it's a good idea to follow up with this stuff. People that don't get good results with just the PlastiX will need to wetsand.
There's always a spot on my detailing shelf for PlastiX.
Dude, the stuff was $6. for heavens sake!!! What do you got to lose for $6. ? An extra value meal at Wendy's? I had some crap on mine that nothing would take off and this stuff did the trick. Don't be a cheap skate!! j/k
