Power loss, no codes, not knock sensor?
Power loss, no codes, not knock sensor?
My '99 SE has experienced a pretty major (but inconsistent) power loss. Sometimes it runs normal and somtimes it loses power, and it surges back and forth between the two in a split second. I had the codes checked twice and there weren't any. The plugs and fuel filter have been replaced, and I tried the knock sensor bypass (470k resistor), but nothing has changed. Any ideas? Thanks.

I replaced all my injectors because I would get constant engine misfires. If you dont have a rough idle and the car does not misfire at all then dont change them. Get a shop to clean them or keep running injector cleaners.
i had the same problem for about a year, no codes and was so random that it took the shop about a week to find the problem... i ended up having to put a new ecu in it, havent had a problem since.
i hope its not that, it aint cheap

do you hear the injectors "clicking" for each cylinder when you have power loss? check the grounds, especially the ones for the injectors and the coils. I replaced all my coils and platinum plugs bc of one bad injector....
have you checked that all of your belt driven crap if functioning properly and not yanking power....

Make sure your MAF sensor is plugged in good and make sure your air filter is clean / new. Clean the TB (I recomend pulling the TB off of the intake manifold and doing it that way) and see if your problem persists. It is possible the Mass Air Flow sensor is going, but usually once it goes, it's gone - will not go then come back, then go ... etc.
Do you get surging from the engine? How's the idel and what about holding it at ~2k revs, any hicups?

Tape your coil packs and see if that helps..check these 2 threads:

I had a bad MAF before. The car power cut out for a few seconds once in a while. The car drove great in between. I could drive for a few days without problem. This problem went on for weeks, but I did not know what to fix. Eventually it got so bad that the MIL was on with bad MAF code. I replaced the MAF with a used one from Ebay. No problem since.
hmm i was thinking maybe a intermittent faulty knock sensor? i could be totally wrong but i remember reading something about a knock sensor that only functions intermittently...maybe its not tripping a code for knock sensor because of that...but im going out on a limb here..so yeah i could be totaly wrong lol
