But if you took your time, and were really careful... center punched the holes before drilling... couldn't you make it fit like OEM the way you did it? I guess I'm not just getting it...

I'm asking all these detailed questions because I want to do it the best way I can the first time, because there isn't a second chance to do it...

yea I had it fit the same as oem, but closing it will not be the same... remember you will be taking 2 bolts off that you won't need and this throws the lid out of wack when closing it... it won't close even anymore and you will need both hands to get it to close evenly other wize it will tilt on one side only....

like I said too ghetto for me, I like things to work properly like they should and didn't think that would happen.... I don't recommend it, but will supply info if you need it..

Thank you. I value both your info and your opinion. Haven't decided if I'm going to do it, but I love the look. Do you have any info on the type and size hinges that you used? You got yours at Home Depot right?

yea, its a 3" hinge for doors, take a look at the pic below... make sure its zinc or stainless steel.... in the home depot here there wasn't too many to choose from, but if you look at the pic you should know when you see it at the store...

Ok, now 3" is the length from the hing to the end right? What is the width? It's gotta be fairly small in that dimension? like 2" or 1.5"?

I would tell you but I don't have a 5th gen anymore. I guess you can messure it on your trunk though..... it can't be anymore than 1.5" but I'm not sure... 3" is from the middle to the end of one side of the hinge...

ti2tmax, I have a 4th gen also. The way I have mine set up, I've never has a problem closing the trunk. It works just as good as OEM. Only once did I have trouble. I lossened the bolts and retightened them and it was fine. I must agree with Teq-Niq though. It's kind of pointless. It's a nice cheap mod, but I never flip it anymore. After the first few times, it lost it's thunder. That and everyone around me did the flip mod to their trunks after seeing mine. Now everyone around here has a flip trunk.

Well Thanks for your info guys! Here in Maine, there's not many Maximas that are modified. Maybe two others besides mine, and neither have a flip flop. I don't think I've even seen any other car here that has it done either...
