No It's fine. Dont make it a habit. I'm hoping that you had the sense to let go of the gas pedal.

Krismax has a 8000 rpm redline I believe. A pic is in his signature.

Anyone who revs their motor to 7,000 without the benefit of say a JWT or TS ecu is slightly deranged, IMHO, lol!

ive accidently done it before as well. your rev limiter should have cut the gas which is what made that weird noise. just dont do it anymore.

Then if it just cut off, do it 25 times a day and see what happens after awhile. Report back later. Have you nothing better to do than try to destroy your engine? It will pay dividends if you don't continually try to flog it like a rented mule.

Just trying to get your attention. It obviously worked. I know it was an accident. Performance-wise you're better off not redlining the car, other than perhpas in 1st gear at the track. You want torque working in your favor for maximum performance.

Just pay attention to the tach and the sound of the engine and you'll be alright.

I have an old RX7 (1985 GSL-SE) with a 7K redline and those cars like to be flogged. They just go round and round, unlike a reciprocating engine.

It doesn't seem to mind and to get your attention there's a friggin buzzer that goes off when you hit 7K, causing you to back off.

2 da max...every post i see you make seems to be worthless. who cares about the extra 500 rpm if there is no power being made up there? you get blown away by a 2k3 elantra? wtf?

well if ur pistons didnt fly through ur hood then im sure its ok.

i once got raped by a old kia hatch. it left me in the worst way going from 110-140. it had to be spraying or boosted. or maybe it was just that fast

this happend twice while racing on the freeway, i missed 4th gear and WHAM, the tach went all the way to 8K, but it was really quick, so i dont really think the engine revved that high, and i dont even have a extended rev limiter, scared the **** out of me.

Um... negative, there's no way they should have beat you, that cheap Korean 4 banger only makes 138hp and 136 ft/lbs at 6000 and 4500 respectively, it was probably not stock, and the Spectra5 (the hatchback) has a curb weight slightly over 3000lbs for the manual and slightly under 3000lbs for the auto.

according to edmunds the 2k3 elantra weighs in at 2635 vs the maxima's 3097 lbs. If you pack 2-3 people in the elantra and get beat then you have problems. Of course a dyno would be much better comparison than what the compaines say they have. I think with a newer car they would have developed more effective ways of getting the power from crank to the wheels.

Please stop talking about Elantras and Kias

All you did was hit the rev-limiter. No harm done, that is why it is there so you don't over rev the motor.

I hit almost 10K rpm's once

That is what happens when you shift into second at 100mph. It only happend once because that was the end of that motor

hahahahah...no I did not take first to 100mph. I took 3rd to 100mph then went into 2nd instead of 4th by mistake. And the motor did blow. Well, it did not blow up but it did enough damage to have to replace it.

How did he manage to go from 4th to 2nd? Did he try going to 3rd, accidentaly went to the left into 1st, but since it was locked out he just went to 2nd thinking it was 4th?

Some people just suck at driving stick shift and dont realize the proper way to downshift. Thats my assumption.
