CAI=cut hole

I got mine off of Ebay as well, threw out the filter that came with it and got a better one though. Just watch out for puddles!

Go to lowes or home depot ... that is where I got mine ... drills a nice hole.

I have my own question ... how did you guys secure the CAI ... I can hear my filter hitting the top of the engine bay because all I did is stick the pipe down the hole and attach the filter ... did I miss something?

That COULD be true if you had an automatic. Not true in the LEAST bit if you have a stick. IIt's somewhat common knowledge that for every 10 degrees in air temp you drop you can gain up to 1 hp.

mikeximase, so basically you lost a lot of power with an intake?

d@mn it, i want to get an intake for the growl, but i dont wanna loose the power eventhough i dont race. It just feels nice to floor it, especially when ladies are in the car. But then again the growl is impressive enough

yeah i did loose alot of torque at low rpm's, specially in summer's stop and go traffic and high temperatures. the damn thing barely pulls off the line.

I don't agree. I tried all intakes. I have gone back and forth between them and the stock airbox. I like the stock airbox most and I think all other intake setups are worse. But experiment for yourself, and go with what you like.

The Injen you got is NOT a real Cold Air Intake. Real CAI's need a 3+" hole drilled and take cold air from behind the foglight emplacement. I've seen plenty of dynos and with a REAL CAI and a clean filter you will NOT lose anything. Your filter must suck too.

I Got the Cattman/Place Racing CAI.

Is it really dangerous to have the in fender fog light cai considering my GLE doesnt have fog lights? i'm asking because this car needs to last me many years, and i wont have a ride for years if this engine gets messed up.

PR style CAI > ALL other aftermarket intakes.

PR style = The one with the hole.

I am planning my Max lasting me several years as well and I have a CAI, only real concern is puddles. When it rains though you can switch it up and bring the filter up under the hood, only problem I have with that though is the rubber housings holding the pipes have melted tight onto them so when I tried to switch up I couldnt peel the rubber housings loose without destroying them. But luckily I can easily get a ride with someone else during those times.

when i switched from CAI from frankencar midpipe, i dind't notice much gain. then again, I got an injen (no hole).

weird thing is people the filter is near the engine / exhaust manifold... i don't feel much heat around that filter after a long day's worth of driving.

the PR style CAI where you drill the hole in the fender well...doesn't the battery get in the way of the tubing. Did you have to relocate your battery or does it slide right around it?

Is it even worth installing a HAI over the stock air filter box?

It slides nicely around it, you only have to move the battery and tray out of the way to put the intake in but it all goes back the way it came.

Oh that's cool. Man, I wish I hadn't missed that group buy for Place Racing CAI for 120 bucks. They're all out for 97-99. Shouldn't 95-96 CAI fit just fine too?

I dont see why they would have different styles for the 4th gen, the bay is the same right? Do like I did, get an Ebay intake for cheap and just switch out the filter with a better one.

I have some reservations about cutting into my car though. I am most leaning towards a midpipe setup off Ebay and just replace the filter with a better one like you said.
At the MCC meet I last went to, this guy was running a midpipe sans the resonator box and it sounded awesome. I wonder if he's suffering in the rpm band though?

if you insist on getting this type of intake, dont waste your money on the place racing one.. there is no difference between that one, and the cheap ones, other than the filter. neither one of them is going to make your car faster, but if you just want the noise it makes save the money and get the cheaper one.

The "noise" didnt turn me on to it, considering my subs are blasting most of the time I cruise anyway. I love it for the cleaner look in the engine bay.

dont need a dyno sheet, cause ive had it on my car. the difference is noticable and plain as day. people only think there car got faster cause of all the noise it makes. cut the muffler off that same persons car and he'll sware up and down it got even faster. show me your sheets, explain to me why you think is works, and ill be happy to tell you whats wrong. im the underdog here.. since your both so confident, and its such a well know "fact" that this intake will make some kids car faster, im sure you wont have any problem coming up with evidence on it.. happy hunting..
