rattling sound near the wheels?

I hear a rhytmic metal "rattling" sound which gets faster as I accelerate until the road noise drowns it out. The sound also stops once I barely touch the brakes. You can't hear it from the inside of the car, but if I drive very slowly near a wall or a line of parked cars I can hear it through my open window. I think it's coming from the wheels or an axle somewhere. Perhaps a locked caliper? Any ideas anyone?

check out your rotors/pads, i had an extra piece of metal stuck to my rotor that was rubbing on pad. Something rubbing some where, lift it up and check it out.

I can't really jack the car up anyway. I live in an apartment with no garage and no tools. What could it be?
