BBK w/o ABS?

So currently my GXE does not have ABS. If I had decided to do a 300zx BBK upgrade... would my brakes just lock up instantly? would it help me? what would I be faced with on daily driving conditions?

little bit of info would help.

Thanks
-Peter

Im not 100% sure...but I think theyd act the same (as far as locking up). The harder and faster you SLAM on the brake pedal, you'll lock up at the same pressure probably

If you were to do the conversion, yes youd have greater stopping power even tho you dont have ABS.

assuming the 300Z has ABS as an option (don't know if ALL Z's came with Anti-lock brakes)........find a set of calipers off a Z without ABS and then you'd be sure not to have any problems

like bijan said, it should be the same. you just have to get used to the amount of pressure you put on the pedal. just drive peters car to get a feel for the difference. im still impressed with the kit even though its not necessarily a "big" brake kit. impressive 4 piston stopping power. if i had wheels that had enough clearance, id get it.

peter, just get the kit and we'll install it for you heheh.

im planning on getting the kit cuz my brake pads are just gone. I was just afraid I don't want to lock up on me so often that i would get fustrated and mess up my tires than it already has. If I chose to get ABS... what procedures would I have to do to install this? is this on the stickies?

good questions, i wonder if it would take much to install abs or is it even possible?
someone once told me that it is not that hard to have abs put on, is this true?

i heard otherwise, i heard it was a b*tch to retrofit ABS to a non-ABS car i'm out of luck, except im the only one not pulling my ABS relay out at the autocross

Ain't no way you guys should even tryto retrofit ABS on a non abs equipped car. And you can find calipers from an abs/non-abs 300z. As long as they are 30mm versions.

You can run this "kit" on a non abs maxima. I run 13" 300z/Cobra rotor bbk on mine. But I also run 1" larger rotors out back (rear bbk)

I'm just freaked out. Recently I was crusing down Hawthorne Blvd around 65Mph a van cut me off and I braked... I was about to release to pump it but by the time I let go it was too late. My car started to pull straight into the curb on my left when I had the wheel turned maybe half right. As soon as I downshifted tires grabed and I started to fish tail. That was scary as hell. No damage to the wheels just one tire. That's why I was asking about ABS. But now that you mention that the BBK won't lock up on me depending on how I drive I will highly consider it. Thanks Jeff.

I'd stongly suggest correcting that brake pulling issue before putting on a BBK.

Technically if you put more braking force into the front brakes w/o upgrading the rear brakes, yes the fronts will be more prone to lock before the rears. You just have to be much more in tune with you car's braking system

My 96' is non-abs & after the 300zx swap the front end does lock up a little more easily but you just need to adjust to the new calipers. I feel safer w/ the 300zx swap over stock. My stock calipers where either weak under high force or they would just lock up. There was no happy medium. The 300zx handles high force braking alot better than stock setup.

I have a wilwood big brake kit (12", 4 piston calipers) with no abs, locks up at the same point that oem brakes would but just gets to that point faster.

so in other words with the wilwood kit or BBK for that matter, you are really not getting any more gripping force then the stock calipers/rotors before you lock up they just feel better and fade less? so you don't feel any decrease in stopping distances as they lock up at the same level of deceleration/clamping grip on the rotors? so they only people that would benefit would be more ABS equipped maxima's unless your goal is just no fade...

Exactly micheal....it, feels a whole lot better, i like the fact that i dont have to hit the brakes so hard...but it locks at around the same point that stock brakes do....its just easier to get to that point with the bbk.

easier to get to that point meaning, with a lot less pedal pressure? or do you mean it's easier to know where the point is and keep it at the threshold right before it?

so you don't gain anymore braking/deacceleration force before they lock up with the BBK...??? or is it easier to keep it at the threshold right before that?
