Motor swapping - Difference in OBD1 vs OBD2 ?
Hey all, quick question. I was wondering what the differences are in an OBD1 VQ30DE and an OBD2 VQ30DE? (If any?)
The reason is, I am planning to drop a newer motor in my 95 maxima and I was wondering if any of the wiring, sensors, or anything is different and might possibly pose a problem during the swap?
So would there be any problem putting in a 97 motor into my 95 car without changing wiring harnesses?
Thanks!

95 maximas have an ODBII connector on the passenger side behind the ECU cover.
As far as putting the motor in there shouldn't be a ton of problems. Just use everything from the 95 that looks different. There will be some emissions stuff but it will not just connect with everything from the 97 emissions setup.

you really only need to worry about emissions. 95 has both cali and fed spec cars. the fed specs have the charcoal canister in the engine bay (where the ABS unit would be). Easy to spot since they dont have the purge control valve on the top of the intake manifold.
Just reuse the stock emissions if in doubt.
