I would imagine it will help you fail the emissions tests.... being a high flow cat converter it obviously must create more pollution if it didn't it would be standard on cars. If it wasn't California you might have a chance lol, but with it I would imagine you will fail emissions.

They're so expensive because they are so good emissions wise. And yes, you will fail smog with a high flow cat in California, sucks eh?

Not always true 'm willing to bet that the only difference between those two cats is the OBDII stamp, other wise it should function the exact same, are you sure its your cat, did your car throw any codes since the check engine light was on?

I barely passed my emissions test. Limit 81 reading 81 on NOx. And that was in Virginia with the cattman fast cat, which I am convinced is the only hi-flo cat to buy for your maxima. its 240 dollars for the part though, and it is worth every penny. Nice finish great welds, and its tiny! Its also an omni-directional cat, but you should mount the longer side towards the motor because it is slightly narrower to create higher exhaust velocity. Don't go cheap, you will be sorry. i got a bunk cat from CustomMaxima.

You can get one from nissanparts.cc for $754 plus shipping if that's any consolation.

well first all my O2 sensors went bad so i replaced all of them after that it threw another code and i took it to the mechanic and he said it has to be my cat then, and "NOTSOFN" u are right about the diffrence bettwen both of them is the OBDII. Thats what the mechanic told me to get. he told me make sure its obdII and plus i have WS y-pipe and as u guys know it takes off 2 cats so thats even worse for me.

Those are pre cats, and they only convert when the car is still cold. After warm up the main cat does all the work.

Also all 95+ cars have OBD2.

we live in the **** state of california, eventually you will get use to it. you cant expect to have pretty women, nice scenery AND have an easy emissions law too

as for the teast. just make sure that you are up to date on all your regular maintinence, and that you have warmed your car up REALLY well. i mean drive it hard for like 45 minutes. i red lined my car in every gear before bringing it in. i passed the sniffer part with my ypipe and hi flow cat, but failed cus of ecu and sensory problems. good luck.

edit: i cant help but wonder. did you use to have an sr20 powered 240? if so, how did you pass then?

Also, use stuff like Seafoam before you get tested and be sure to do more than just add it to the gas tank. Every little bit helps.
