I'm sure the best, easiest way to add those extra 32 horses is with some bolt on modifications, Y-pipe, CAI, Exaust, ECU etc... or just NOS
If there was something quick, cheap and easy I bet 85% of the guys here would have 222 hp 4th gens by now.
As far as exact engine differences, I don't know.

New intake, new exhaust, and a slew of minor improvements to the engine internals. No quick fix.

On that note. Anybody know how hard it would be or if it is even possible to swap manifolds i.e. would linkages and hoses and what not be close enuf in location to even make this a possiblity. By exhaust do u just mean piping muffler and cats or are the actual manifolds redesigned? I know they dont make headers for the car, but perhaps better flowing exhaust manifolds might not be a bad way to go assuming the power gains are there...

Don't think it's a quick fix. The intake manifold is completely different. It's composite, and I think it has an electronically controlled valve in there. I remember reading something from a brochure that the exhaust manifold on those may be equal length as well. I'm not sure, but think I might've read something about variable cam timing as well.

Then there's the variable volume muffler, but I believe that's the help boost low end torque.

The 1/4 times and 0-60 times for that car and the gen 4's are almost the same. But that's because the 2000 gained weight as well. However, from most situations besides a dead stop (where weight really affects accerleration), the 2000 will pull ever so slightly on a gen 4...

Now dropping a pathfinder engine in sounds like fun... 250hp hehe... and it's a vq, but 3.5 liter and has variable cam timing...
