Clacking noise during idle

My 95 Max has 130K and a clacking noise just started during idle. I believe the sound is coming from the timing chain area. I have read a problem with the tensioner and wondering if this could be the same problem. It only makes the noise during idle. If I give the accelerator a tap the sound will go away for a minuet or so. Also if I keep the revs up during idle the sound goes away. Any thought what it could be?

Sounds like something loose or a pebble caught on an exhaust heat shield...
You'll need to go underneath to look/search.

Check the alternator and AC compressor belt tensioner adjustment bolt. It's a long silver bolt that is sitting right next to the water pump inlet. Had that happened to me before, it was hella loose. Don't over tighten though.

What are your RPMs at idle? Are they below 800?

It's the common and dreaded 95 timing chain tensioner issue! It's goes away when you gas it for now, but get worse over time, I ended up changing the chain as well as the tensioner at the same time might as well while your in there. The labour is about 10 hrs, good luck
