Time to replace antenna? NEW PICS, HELP NEEDED!

a while ago my antenna would only go down a third of the way when off and up 2/3rds when on...last week it wouldnt move at all but after i lubed it up an additional literally 20 times and played up and down, cleaning, it just kept rising with filth near the bottom maybe from old lube or something...also, it was only a temporary fix...i got the haynes manual and all...is it time for me to replace it? or is there some super duper luber that will fix it lol

Mine doesn't go down so I brought it in to the shop. They told me it was bent inside and that I'll have to replace it. That could be the problem with yours if lubing it doesn't work. The quote I got to fix it was $127 Cdn. Of course if you're able to figure it out yourself, then I'm sure it would be a ton cheaper. You can buy the antennas off of ebay for pretty cheap.

BTW, I'm gonna be in Oakville next week, maybe I'll see your Maxima driving around! I'll just look for a broken antenna...

Just get a new antenna mast off Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...544032480&rd=1
There you go.

There's no reason to get the antenna fixed at the dealer. It's very easy to do yourself and cheap. By the way are you cleaning it before you lubricate it? If still getting stuck a new mast will probably fix the problem. Look at those ebay links.

Snap ring needle nose pliers, is used to take off the nut surrounding the antenna, remove the little rubber seal then the outter plastic cap. Its been like a year since ive replaced mine, I believe to remove the thing Turn on the radio and then close it, keep pulling out the mast, the end of the mast will be pretty hard to do. Took me a while because mine broke towards the bottem end. I used some spray, and vice grips and yanked it out. now to put in the new one is the best part, start to put in the track i believe with the teeth facing towards the front of the car, turn on the radio feed in the wire a bit then turn it off, keep repeating these steps till its all in and its good. then put everything back togethert again. simple job, removing the thing is the only hard thing.

Turn it as you were loosening a bolt. Spray some rust penetrator on it. Put the tool in and gradually apply more and more power, keep a steady hand and it will come loose, dont try to give it a full blast of power because you will slip the tool will come off and might scratch your paint.

All you need to do is to remove the retaining nut on the top of the base of the antenna. I'm sure there is a tool for this, but I just used a pair of pliers. Then you should be able to remove the mast. The mast should have a long, thin piece of plastic hanging off of it, unless it broke. You can pull this out with a little bit of force. If it has broken, try making sure the radio is on, so the antenna would be in the up position. Hopefully you can get a hold of the piece of plastic. If not, you may be out of luck. I never had to take the motor out yet. If you are able to remove this long piece of plastic, all you do to install the new mast is slide the plastic piece from the new mast down the antenna shaft. When it gets to the bottom, have somone turn off the radio. It should begin puliing the plastic down. It may not go all the way in. Turn on the radio again, but then turn it back off right away. It will pull the rest down...hopefully. Screw the retaining nut back on, and you are set

If i recall the metal part of the mast the bottem of it has 2 clips holding it in. It's hard to yank it out because they hold it in, Get something in there to hold them flush to the mast as you can. try pull it out then. Took me a while to yank mine out and when I did I completely broke the mast and the wire.

well, I dented the **** out of mine to the point there was nothing to grab but a little piece of metal. Do you have a vice grab the tool now not the stand unit. I heated up the metal just a tad to make it soft then I took a punch and dented the **** out of it so i was able to yank out one side, then the whole thing came out.

damn I didn’t know they had cheap antennas on eBay.
I bought mine from Advance Auto Parts and adapted it to the antenna motor.

Get a vice grip, Cut the atenna down so there's an inch sticking up from the bottem. Lock the vice grip on the piece of metal, Take something extremely small and stick it in between those 2 piece's, bash it in let the bottem dent in so that those clips will have room to slide out. Look at the new on you will see what im talking about.
