Clear the codes and see if any come back. The KS code is most likely to be true. About 10000 miles ago I had a speed sensor code and it never returned....

As crazy said, clear the codes and see what if any come back. If the same codes come back, then check/clean the EVAP purge control valve and clean out the EGR system.

The KS code is probably coming up because of the EGR system problems.

Please help new user with ECU code

I'mk posting here because according to the forum's policy I can't create a new thread. The check engine light in my 96 Maxima is on and I just tried to read an ECU code. I'm getting 9 longs then 1 then 3 longs and then 4 shorts. I've tried many times and always get this sequence. Does it mean 1304 which I can't find an explanation for? Thanks in advance.

3 longs 4 shorts, 0304, is the knock sensor....i guess you want 0901, 9 longs 1 short, which is a front heated oxyegen sensor.

AS stated 0304 and 0901. Change the KS (knock sensor) and see if that gets rid of both codes. If the 0901 come back you'll need a new o2 sensor.

in the 4th gen section there are stickes that can help you with more information.

Actually it's just the reverse.

Change the O2 sensor and the KS code should go away.

The KS code is usually always considered a ghost code when it's associated with an O2 sensor.

Well there you go. I stand corrected.

Incredible forum: thank you, guys, so much for prompt advice. I've been pretty lucky with the car so far: 10 years, 155Kmi and it's only the third time I need to fix something. First two were some AT hose and cv boots. Also I have to admit that my wife's been putting regular gas last 2 years. My other car is g35 and it doesn't look like it will be as reliable as maxima: many little things went wrong in 2 years I had it. Thanks again.

Contrary to what was said, my O2 code (0303) cleared itself when I replaced the KS.

*Can a bad KS cause bad mixture and kill off an O2?

or

*Would abad o2 cause bad mixture killing of a KS?

I'd go with the first choice.

or how bout, could a bad o2 sensor be giving faulty readings, making the car think the KS is bad too?

Confusing, but I would venture to say that both cases would be probable and related if you get both codes at once. But, if both fron O2 sensors maintain a constant value, the ECU will read from the rear O2 sensor to maintain the correct Air/Fuel mixture.
