IIRC Teins are sleeve-type coilovers and the lower they go, the more suspension travel is reduced, just like a spring/strut combo. JIC's/D2's/Ksports can maintain the suspension travel even as they are lowered.

If you live an an area that snows, you may want to reconsider getting the Tein Basic units. The common problem with the steel-bodied Tein coilovers is rust. In winter conditions, salt will accumulate on both the shock body and on the rings. If you don't at least power wash them each week, they may seize.

But the Teins are designed for full suspension travel at the reccomended ride height, which is pretty low.

you can drop the d2 coilovers -4 inches and have full suspension travel...also the rust problem...you can probably catch the group deal for a cheaper price...Originally Posted by GoalieKeg

when in comes to comfort the d2's are equipped with a 36-way adjustable shock absorber system...i dont know if you can adjust the shocks on the teins but i think the d2 on the best choice....
*the idea is fairly new to me and im still learning so please correct me if im wrong on any of these....

well technically, Teins do perform very well, like i have said before, better than any spring and shock combo i have owned in the past so i am pretty happy and to make it even better, it is such a comfortable ride that i have nothing to complain about.
but yes, there are more of a better and more aggressive coilovers out there better than Tein, but all i have to say is that if you are not going to Track the car, why get some crazy Coilover or even a coilover kit that the ride is very stiff for a daily driver?
i'd rather have something that performs well and gives a good enough ride and Tein made that happen. Not too soft, not too stiff, but great performance.

you guys are starting to worry me. i pretty much made up my mind on going with teins. i have heard many good things about them. i will not track the car, just use as a daily family vehicle. i want an agressive stance and the ablity to fly up and down on-ramps. my 2 yr old loves it, he says "weeeee" everytime.
i rather go with the setup that is going to be more comfortable. i am still planning on trying the teins out. mr. duck, if you get yours on soon let me know how the ksport is. these are also an option. i am worried about the rust problem with the teins, but i think i should be powerwashing them once a week no matter which ones i get. thanks.

Do NOT get worried by n00b org members posting things the don't know about.
Do yourself a favor and listen to me and Maximus_95 on this. We have had first hand experience with these, and have helped many other orgers make the decision on the Teins, and they aren't dissapointed at all. Don't listen to all these BS accusations about the Teins. The fact is that some orgers (won't name names) that have absolutely NO EXPIERIENCE with the Tein coilovers are saying things that aren't true about them.
If you are worried about rust, spray the coilovers with rust-oleum or something! All these accusations about rust are pissing me off. These things are designed to get wet...and face it, everything that is metal is going to rust eventually, including your car...

In the end, these are great coilovers that have proven themselves to be a quality product. On the other hand, the D2's have had numerous noise issues. I'm still happy with my Teins.

serious, goaliekeg and i do have experience with the teins and to make it even better, everyone i have given a ride in my car, even with 4 passangers, the ride was still great!
If you want something comfortable, go with teins, im sure your daughter will love it, but if you go with something more aggressive, your daughter might not like it.
i prefer comfortability and performance over just performance. Like i said before, i dont track my car, and if i did, i would probably go with something more aggressive.
but since you dont track, go with teins, you'll love them!

*update* well i should be expecting the coilovers on thursday, cross your fingers and hope they come in on weds so i can install them on thurs, cuz if they arrive on thurs than i have to wait till sunday, and i dont know if i can wait that long.... haha

well i think i will wait until mr. duck gets his ksports so he can give me his review. they are on a GB right now so i can save some money with these. thanks for the replies guys, its between the teins and the ksports right now.

For roadcourse maxi-mizing - is it worth the price to replace my eibach springs and Konis with the Teins? Im thinking it will cost $1250 at least... I want the best tho- Is it worth it to pay twice as much for the (gasp) JIC?

i've had TEIN Super Street on my Accord, nothing but flawless turning and comfort. Most people don't even realize that it is lowered since its so comfortable. My brother on the other hand has them on his RSX. Tein SS also, but his ride is very stiff, as stiff as my D2's on my i30 now. Playing with the adjustable dampening, i never did with my accord cause i don't turn as crazy as my brother. But he def needed it, and if you're planning to drift your car, you def need adjustment. And Tein is a japanese company, in my opinion, japanese stuff is a lot more reliable in car parts than any other country. i mean, thats where all the good cars and engines come from neways!
P.S. dunno why tein only makes Basic for the 4th gen, but SS for the 5th gen, a lil odd, since in many other app's, you can choose when you want.
P.P.S. For those talking about full shock travel, tein has them too, they're called the flex, a lot more expensive

thanks for everyone for their imput. i also am not going to track my maxima. i like to have fun on the roads and looking but still looking to be comfortable on the chicago roads. people have told me that the ksports are just as comfortable as well but can be adjusted to be very stiff. the price is right for the ksports right now. 740 shipped on the GD. can i get the tein basics for any cheaper than that? anybody know where? if not, i might as well go with the ksports. i really do nto want to deal with adjusting though. one thing i do like about the teins as that they need no adjusting. for a serious tracker, this might not work. but for me its cool. i had agx's and they were very easy to adjust. the ksports for some reason seem complicated to me. this is a hard decision to make

alright... suspension noob here.... sorry.... but the ride height on the Teins are adjustable right? What do you guys mean by dampening.... please shed some light on this for me.. thanks...
I am definitely lookin into getting the Tein's for the Max...

I bought mine from steve @sco for a hella good price and its the best mod I have done to my car. I <3 tein!!! And yes you might have to drill out the holes were the bolts go to attach them to the control arm. Just a little bit but its a minor thing. Rides beautifully no joke.

oh and btw just to make sure get a camber kit to make sure you dont get the camber problem cause I almost went through 2 sets of tires in a matter of a month

you guys are the *****. you answer all my questions that i have. after listening to you guys i'm gonna buy a set of teins when i get the $money$
Senior Member
camber kits do not have to be from stillen. There are companies out there that make them specially for our cars. every car's camber kit is different, you have to look for one for your maxima.

mr. duck just got his ksports coilovers today. hopefully i can meet up with him sometime before the GD is over. the look like a simple swap. like i said before, the only thing that im worried about with the ksports is the adjusting. 36-way seems pretty complicated for me. but we will see how mr. duck does with adjusting them. i will order by the end of the month so that i can stop annoying you guys with all my suspension inquiries. btw, i just got my cefiro headlights and my red/clear tails. the only other mods i will do is suspension and a y-pipe so im already half way done.
Hey guys, just installed today, and oh man my car handles like a beast!!!! ride is really nice too, a lil harsher than i expected, but i mean.. they are coilovers... so yea.. i will post a real review sometime this weekend when ihave time, i just got done with school, so i will be a lil busy having fun!
BTW it was a DIRECT swap, pull the old ones out, put the news on, only thing that takes time is adjusting ride height, which i still gotta finish up tomarrow. Also i want to give it some time to settle before saying anything else

Werd. Peter got me convinced after a ride in his car. Teins are exactly what Im setting some money aside for. You guys'll see, at the next meet I wont be the stockest maxima there!Originally Posted by Maximus_95

First I will say Tein coilovers are very nice and is a very well trusted brand here and in the land of the rising sun. The only bad thing about them is the fact that they do not have adjustable shock hight like the JIC FLAt2's or the K-sports of D2's. However the D2's are not recommended by a few of our fellow orgers here dont like some of the noises they cause and a few other small problems too. I here the K-sports and nice but we are suspect that they might be made by the same manufacturer as the D2's. I think going with the tien's will be fine just dont go any lower than 2.25 to 2.5in and you will not have problems with camber and wearing out your tires and cv's so fast, like I did. Im drop to 3in on a sleve-type coilover kit. If you have any other questions hit me up or go to http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaCoilovers for some more info.
