yet another starting issue here.....

well, I am having a starting issue at times... not all the time but sometimes after parking and letting it sit, for, lets say about several minutes. When I go to crank it on and I push that clutch in it cranks but not start.... I stop, do it all over again and WHAM!!! its on... now, again it doesn't happen all the time but it happens.. i am getting pretty pissed about it... I search here and did the ECU pull... i got the code 0505, which, if I am not mistaken is, no record... I check VBMax's code thingamagig..... but still it happens... could it be something else... please look out and let me know... thanks...

Hmmm about the only thing I can think of would be something with the distributor...I used to have an Infiniti G20 that did something similar...the specialist said it was most likely a crank angle sensor or something. Who knows though...different car. Good luck.

I've been having similar starting issues for the last month. I'm stumped. Sometimes it starts up fast and strong... and the sometimes it takes a couple of cranks and doesn't seem to want to start up. I'm in the process of troubleshooting but most of the usual suspects have been absolved. I am down to FPR, fuel pump, leaky injectors, or crankshaft (POS) sensor.

is your engine light on? Cause mine is not lit and mine works.. if I am not mistaken, anyone of those should possible trigger the engine light... I ran my ECu and no codes either... I am stumped myself... let me know what you get... I am guessing my FPR may not be doing its duty in completion maybe falling laggin a bit... I will have to check it out and if so replace it with the Nismo one...

If this works then PM me !!!

Check your Engine Coolant Temp Sensor.. I just replaced mine on Sunday..

Symptoms.. Do your Fans Sometimes come on even when the engine isn't that hot? Does it start the revs go up to 1000 drop to 800 then stall?

If so: basically your Coolant Temp Sensor thinks engine is operating out of norm parameters so it retards your engine.. I think it tries to prevent car starting due to excessive heat.. there isn't any but the sensor thinks there is

Heres a pic of sensor, Follow your upper radiator pipe, Read the stickies for how to test your sensor. Its the plug on the right.

No, no check engine lights for me. You will get a code if it's flat out faulty but often for a borderline functioning part you won't. The startup problem is intermittent. For me, I excluded a lot simply from replacement over the last couple of years. ECTS was changed but certainly is a common problem for cold starting issues. Mine happens even when warm.

Crankshaft position censor (REF): I cleaned this thing yesterday night and it wasn't really that dirty--just kind of black grimy stuff on it. Well, I am still keeping my fingers crossed, but I started up the car maybe 8 times today and all were first time cranks with no "hiccups". I also have a Definitive UDP and I'm wondering if maybe the timing ring is less magnetic than the stock pulley. Anyways, I'm hoping it'll stay this way or else I'm going to look into getting a fuel pressure sensor.

Jaemax, when yours doesn't start do you mean you don't hear the starter cranking to try and start it? Like it's dead silent? If so, check the switch at the bottom of the clutch pedal and also the ignition switch as possibilities. If it does crank but the motor doesn't turn over, then you've got a laundry list of items to check out.
