Yup! That's why. In France all headlights used to be yellow, but I think they dropped that requirement...not sure why. That's one thing about all the HID people...having all super white lights is nice in the dry, but sucks in the fog. I think meanbeans setup is the best of both worlds.

Ok good you can get the Fog lights open. The fogs that came with my car were rusted on the inside. I am going to try to bake them open and paint ("AE") the fogs and get them looking nice again. I tried once before but I was getting frustrated and it was getting late so I put it off again. The fogs seem a lot harder than the headlights since there is no space to get leverage without cracking the glass.

 

Damn I might have to do this... that looks nice.

 

Just to clarify, you used the H3 size yellow caps from hidtech right? I'm thinking of ordering some so I'd like to be sure.

One question tho the fogs look like they are high on your garage door. Is there a slope or is it flat .

 

ewuzh: No, I am not using the H3 capsule. It is too short to accept the HID bulb length. I am using the 9006 capsule size instead. More info will be given in tut.

2kprlmax: My driveway is on an incline. Also, I have the fog lights aimed a little high on purpose.

pavelsmax: Judging from my past experience with them, it will take hidtech.com a couple of days to reply back to your email. However, you can just send payment via Pay Pal to <sales@hidtech.com> now for $37 in total. ($30 for capsules and $7 for shipping.) You want to make a note that you are purchasing the lexus yellow capsules for bulb size XXX. Once you submit your payment, send an email to the same address noting that you just made a payment. Your replay back time will be less than a day. I have done this very thing a couple of time already and have not had a problem. If you are not comfortable with this method then just wait for their reply back to you. The fogs look like they do on the Lexus vehicles using a halogen bulb.

 

GS400 foglights fit the 97s and up.... There hella nice, and all you need to do is splice the wiring.

How do you know this? Are you saying the mounting points line up to the maxima's fog light brackets? Do you have pictures of during the install or the finished install?

Then someone ought to re-write the how-to's in the stickies for this mod because the procedure is as you've described "ghetto rig". I too had a problem with just clipping the little nub on the bulb. I ended up cutting the wires to the corner bulb socket midway and reconnected the wire for the smaller filament to the other side, the bigger filament side. Used a crimp connector and siliconed both ends to keep moisture out.

Going back to topic:

This is exactly what I was trying to do but I have a 95 SE, different stock fog light housing. I'll have to take one out and see if I can fit the mini H3 hid housing inside. BTW, did you have to do any trimming around the opening of your stock housing?

I love the yellow fog, however, from looking at Meanbean's Max with all front lights on, there's now 3 different colors. The white HID headlights, the burnt orange corners and lenses, and yellow fogs. I'm not sure if I dig that. If I go with yellow fogs, I'd match the corners with the fogs. Then match the bumper lenses with the headlights. Like this:

Someone from my local car club (DNE) already suggested changing to yellow. At the time, I was against it only because of the high cost of hyper yellow halogen lights and being able to find matching color ones in sizes 1157, 1156 and 194. Well, I was able to find some for a good price so the corner and bumper lights will all be hyper yellow shortly.

 

Cool, let us know where you will get the hyper yellow bulbs. I'm not sure if the Silverstar Signal bulbs will match the hyper yellow look. Sylvania claims that it eliminates "the fried egg effect".

 

The "fried egg effect" happens when you use a standard clear bulb and it doesn't light up "white," but a slightly off-white color.

I looked at those sylvania bulbs before. They're basically just like the Phillips Silvervisions which are standard amber/orange bulbs with a silver reflective outer coating so it doesn't look orange when its not lit. They will light up orange/amber just like any other standard amber blinker, not yellow.

I used them in my previous car. The non-fade claim seems to hold true, as it was still shining bright yellow two years later.

 

So the OptiBlue Yellow bulb will be a close match to the yellow fogs?

i guess you could ask him for pics but the color of his corners "jdm yellow" was very similar to the light output of meanbeans fogs with the capsles
