very jerky

so today i go to the shop to get my car inspected actually to find out why i failed. so we plug in the scan tool and im throwing an evap code. No biggie i will fix that another time. soon after i left under acceleration the car would jerk back and forth very harshly. it feels like its misfiring but it only happens intermittenly. So i pull over to the side of the road and find that my CAI filter is soaked. Its rained harder before and ive never had a problem so i disconnect the extention and go about my merry way. everything seems to be fine now. So i go to drive my gf home at 12 am and it starts being jerky again...but then stopped after about 5 minutes of driving. can anyone diagnose this. its a 97 I30. im going to get new plugs tommorow. but i doubt that it would be a coil pack issue since there was no code 2 minutes before at the shop. im thinking i could have possibly sucked up some water? but the car ran fine after i disconnected the CAI extention and then 5 hours later started to act up again. so i dont know what the hell the problem is.

You're bypassing the problem your car SAID it was!! The EVAP control system
works on a vacuum. I don't care what car you have; if you have a vacuum
leak, it's gonna run like garbage. I'd check for cracked, cut, or loose vacuum
lines.

Another possibility. You said the CAI filter was soaked. Have you ever had
water in your gas? The car will run like chit, but only when it's trying to burn a non-combustible. You might be feeding your car water through the intake,
instead of through no-name gas.

P.S. Which EVAP code?

ive had the evap code for a year now its the selenoid. im not by passing the problem it just happened today. evap doesnt affect engine performance anyway. the part that jams me up is that after i disconnected the CAI extention it ran fine i drove for about 1/2 hour to some stores, then i go to get in my car to drive my gf home and now its doing it again...but it only did it for 5 minutes then stopped

hesisatition is usually caused by ignition coils. how many miles do you have? and have you replaced your ignition coils yet? they are a wear item, so at about 100,000 they should be replaced.
