A/C condenser
A/C condenser
Well to make along story short my ac condenser has a hole in it. will a condenser from a 96 maxima work on my 97 I30. and if it does what can i use to recharge it. can i used those do it urself kits or do i need to go to the shop to have this done?
I'm pretty sure you can put in a 96 condenser. You'll need to have the system charged up by a shop because they vacuum the system down to remove all air and water vapor. You'll also need a new receiver/dryer (about 40 bucks). If the hole has been there for a long time you may want to ask them to flush the system to make sure no crap has got in there.
davey is right. You have to go to a shop to get all that stuff out, and to properly fill (with oil and gas), and check for leaks after the install. A guy came out to fix mine and the process was more involved than I thought. I needed to get a new dryer, condensor, and compressor. Cost me, but the kids are happy. They were miserable as well as me, for the couple of weeks it did not work.

You can charge the A/C yourself, it takes about 2 lbs. It should charged to the correct pressure, some kits come with a gauge that has a green "system full" section right on the gauge. Pretty much fool proof....
If the system has been opened for a component replacement (the condenser) you will need to pull a vacuum to get the air out. In that case let a professional service it, they'll check for leaks while it's under a vacuum and put some oil back in the system as well. The dryer only needs to be replaced if it (the dryer) has been exposed to open air for a length of time.
