downstream o2??

my downstream o2 sensor keeps setting of my CEL. 2 codes 0510 and 0511.
i know that the upstream left and right bank sensors help monitor the air/fuel mixture, so i'm sorta glad they arent messed up. i think the y pipe may be tripping the downstream sensor.
Question is, will my car suffer a performance loss if only the downstream o2 sensor is faulty?
thanks for any insight.

the downstream o2 sensor monitors the cat. The only time the ECU will rely on this sensor for an air/fuel mixture is if one of the upstream O2 sensor is faulty.

so realistically it wont damage anything right? i just know it stinks. but i had previously had my front 2 blown and that was real bad for gas mileage.

Not unless that o2 sensor is telling you something that isn't visable (like a bad cat)
