First Dealership Experience with Vq35 4th Gen Max!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man Oh Man I am tired. Dealers drive me crazy. SO I went to a local dealership today to see how much they will charge for timing advance on a 2k2 6 speed maxima. He said they will do it for $65 so I was like cool. Then I asked them how much they will charge to diagnose my abs system because the ABS light came on my car. They told me $135. This was all before I told them about the swap. The dude seemed very cool and had no problems. Then I was like there is a catch. He was liek what is it? I have a 4th gen maxima. He was like what year? I said 1996. Yhe he was liek I thought you said you have a 2002 Maxima. I am like I do. He looked at me all puzzled. I was liek that is the catch. Those 2 maximas are combined into one car. I told him that everything from the engine to tranny to ecu and everything else is 2002 but the body of the car is a 96. He still looked puzzled and even more confused. He was liek there could be so many problems that our techs wouldnt even touch the car and they would have a hard time figuring where everything else. I was like so there is no possible way? He was like sorry unless you want to talk to my boss. I was like sure why not. So i went to talk to his boss. I told him and he was liek there is no garauntee that we can do soemthign about it. He was like if you want you can pay for it but we cannot say we will fix the problem. He said we might not even be able to pull the codes and al lthe wiring is diffferent and our computers might not work and alot more things. I was like I will take that risk but I was thinking in my head there is nothing that could go wrong except that the techs might be lost. So he told me to come in the morning if I wanted to ad they could try. Man I wish I had a consult 2 so I can do this all by myself. Thats my first experience with a nissan dealer. So i have no clue on what to do. Any ideas guys?
haha imagine bringing in a turboed 35. that would set some "uh let me check with the manager" alarms off. lol good story. but yeah, id look into a consult for yourself if the dealer is this uncertain about the situation. usually they are pretty confident about what they can and cant do. still, at least their trying. either way, good luck
haha nice. you should have told him that it was just a 4th gen and not even mentioned the 35. then seen the looks on their faces when they opened the hood up for the first time and when they would ask you about it act like you had no idea of it or even what a vq35 was. that would be hilarious.
Ha! my turn signals stopped working, so I checked everything I could, found no problems with the fuses/bulbs. Went to the stealership....
They opened my fusebox and saw wiring for my alarm system. They pretty much gave up on the spot.

The dealer did the right thing imho. The name of their game is to make the most amount of money in the least amount of time. Trying to troubleshoot your car would not achieve that. They'd be running around in circles charging you $90/hr. while other customers would be in the waiting area wanting simple jobs done where they would charge the same $90/hr. and get the job done in 15 min. They save that Monster Garage stuff for Jesse James and the Disovery Channel.....
If I am not mistaken you even have the dash out of a 02 in that 4th gen right ? Everything including the ABS system is off a 02 ? My boss has a old school 1962 Mini Moris Cooper, with a B18C5 out of a 97 Type R Integra- using the stock Honda ECU and OBDII computer. I had a check engine light come on, and I had no issues diagnosing the problem and fixing it. As long as all the sensors and wireing is intact, I don't see why the dealer wouldn't wanna diagnose it.

as i was saying i see why there should be a problem with diagnosis. that is all i need because i can fix the problem by myself. i jsut need to know what it is. all it is is a 2k2 max with everythign from it including the ecu in a 4th gen body. i mean if you think about it, all you have to do is take the consult 2 and hook it up to the port and tell me what the code is. the port is even in the same place as in a 2k2 max. how hard is it i mean? are the techs reaslly that dumb? and plus then they try to make me feel even more stupid then the techs that work there. i can live with the abs light but i want the timing advance and i wish i had acces to a consult 2 but they are soo expensive.
From logic point of view, I just couldn't get it why they can't do it? You just explained to them that you have engine, trainy and ecu from 2002, and abs is totally seperate issue. They can do it, but of course, they need ***** money. Stealership!

with an 2002 ecu they would use the computer for an 2002 you would think. I can understand telling u they might not be able to do it but it's all nissan how diff can it be. We all know they do not change much car to car there's alot on our cars from 89,90 and lot from 95 to 2002 the same. u would think it being all nissan they wouldn't be showing there panties

Vasily, you need to get yourself a copy of the 02 FSM if you do not already have one. There are self-diagnostic troubleshooting sections for every system in the vehicle that you only need a multimeter for.
