NO

Considering in October i bought my 97 GXE for 10,000 with only 45,000 miles..

and someone posted a couple days ago two FULLY LOADED SE's a 97 for 10,000 and a 98 for 13,000

95 SE's should be going for anywhere between 5,000 and 8,000

10K sounds good...1 paid 14k for mine with 40k on it and a 72k extended mile warranty.

Is it auto or 5 speed? Body in good shape? If i was you i would go to carfax.com and run a check on on it...see if you can get the VIN #. I believe the first one is free, even so if your that interested in the car pay the monetary fee. carfax will pull up all the info on the car....how many owners....theft recovery.....minor/major accidents....etc.....very helpful. 66k on a nissan motor is nothing......ask some of the die hard nissan fans here. mine has 75k now and still pulls like a ****.

97-99 there were cosmetic changes....etc....i like mine but do like the new front end on the newer 4th gens as well.....
but my 95 will wip my wifes 99 SE-L.

From my own experience...if you want a 97-99 that bad, wait.
If not and the 95 turns out to be a good deal then there ya go. Look on the forum tho.....you might be able to get an already modded max for a decent price......several monts ago and a few hundred dollars more you could of had the original megamax....that guy got a good deal

Depends on equipment and condition, me thinks. I have a 95SE and was looking in the paper to guage its worth. Here in CLE, it would go for just over $8k. It is a 5spd, cloth seats, sunroof, no Bose. For $10k, I'd be expecting the works...leather, auto, ABS, BOSE, etc. If $10k is the asking price, you might get it closer to $9k. also, since the vehicle is just over 60k, I'm assuming you'll have to do the 60,000 mile service. You might also be looking at new brakes, tires and a clutch (if manual), depending how it was driven. Ask about these.

In any case, mine has 64k and it runs just as good as the day I got her! Carfax is definitely a must. Get the vin# and do the free search--it will list how many incident reports there are on the vehicle. You will have to pay the dough if you want to see exactly what they were.

seems a little high

in a few ontsh you can probobly break into teh 97's for that much. try contacting dealers in the next states over, or in different counties in your own state, you may get a better deal if your area seems to be charging high for maxima's

Look hard and be patient.

I looked for almost 2 months before I found my ride. I got a 97 GXE comfort pkg w/ 25K on it for under 12K. It can be done, you just have to look and look and look some more.

Remember if you see the list of Cars a dealership has and you don't see what you want.. call down there anyway.. after a car gets off the trailer at the dealership it takes about 2 days before it is entered into Inventory.. maybe a week before they update it on the web.. you can just call and ask a sales man if they had any come in.. it might have just got there and didn't have a inspection check yet..

If you are in Cleveland and are finding 95' "SE" Maximas that have been properly maintained for 8k, show me where because I want to buy one now! I live in Cleveland too and I have yet to see a nicely equiped/maint. 95SE for under 9.5k.

Mine is a 95SE with 68k on it. It has everything but leather. I have done the 60k service, added all new brakes allll around, new shocks/struts, tires and an auot tranny cooler and new tranny fluid. Now if someone told me they would give me 8k for mine I would laugh at them and walk away. A car that hasn't been maintained might go for 8k but you would have to put close to 1k in it to get it up to the level mine is at.

If this guy can wait about 6months I will sell him mine for $10k. In 6months it's time for a new car; not sure what though. The thing should have about 71k on it and will be in perfect shape. No door dings, dents, rust, scratches...nothing--just black emerald with 20% tint and a tan interior with an automagic tranny. Oh yea...and quite a few bolt-ons

Peace...

WTF? I payed 10,000 for mine a year and a half ago and it had 103,000 miles on it. That's messed up! On the other hand, wasn't 95-96 the fastest years for the fourth generation? If it's the miles that are concerning you, don't worry. I have a little over 140,000 miles on my 95 and it still runs great. When describing my cars performance to other people I compare it to a stock mustang 5.0. I can walk away from them (during a race) from top of secong gear on. So it still has plenty of power! I have been wanting to get the supercharger for a long time, but am afraid I have to many miles and the engine wouldn't last long. Isn't a used engine about $1,000? Any opinions?

I think yours would definitely go for $10k or so. As I said, I think MY MAX would go for just over $8k. It is not auto, no ABS, no leather, no BOSE. Not only that, I've got 65,000 mi or so and am still running stock brake pads, stock clutch, although I did do 60k servicing and it is well maintained overall. I think too that in this market, not as many people want manual transmission sedans.

Overall, I think the market you live in makes a big difference.

I paid $6500 for my 95 GXE comfort package three months ago and it only had 69K miles. Look around you'll find one. Look to buy person to person. I saw a 95SE for $7000 with 73K miles in the paper this weekend. (New Orleans)Damn I wish I'd waited to buy that one.

subjective

It all depends on mileage, options, condition, records, location, and ESPECIALLY what the seller thinks it is worth. Your best buy is when the seller is not a Maxima enthusiast and they want to get rid of the car soon. So, keep your eyes constantly on the lookout and be patient.

Last year I saw a beautiful example of a '96 SE 5spd on a local used car lot. The previous owner must have loved this car. It was immaculate. Full loaded. It had non-stock 17" rims that were gorgeous. Updated sound system. Suspension mods. Super clean engine compartment. I was seriously considering it, because my stock 95 SE Maxima (loaded) at 92k miles didn't have any of those nice mods--why not reap the work of someone else, right? The dealer had it stickered at $11,999 and he wasn't budging, even though it had 85k miles. I asked the dealer how he got it, and he said it was from the local Nissan dealer where the owner traded up to a 2000 model, and that dealer has no used car lot. Wonder what that guy did to his 2000.

So, I passed that up and now I'm updating my baby.
She'll be with me for a few more years, unless my next job pays me enough to step up to a BMW 5 series.
