Speedo head install(help)

My odo and trip stopped working. Before i buy a speedo head from nismoparts.com, i wanna know if it is simple to install. Has anyone done it or know how to replace it? Any writeups? Any tips?
Also, the dealer is supposed to set the mileage right?

Thanks in advance.

"Vehicle speed sensor". It the sensor which sends the signal to the Speedo unit among other places.

I'd check the vss to see if it's working. If it's not it then buy a cluster off ebay and change out your speedo. It's pretty easy to remove your cluter. The black plastic surround pops of after you remove the two upper screws. Then I think 4 screw and you can pull your dash out and unplug it. Warning disconnect your battery first. It is possible that you can set your air bags off if you don't. I've heard a lot of air bag horror stories.

I might buy an SE 95-96 cluster. It will bolt right on my GLE right? Its used and i don't know if it will have the same problem. Did all 95-96 have bad odo and trips? should i just buy a new one?

I don't know about 'bolt' right up, but all the connetions are the same,
and it fits in the dash the same.
They are actually the same from 95-97(not sure about digi-odos on 98-99) plug 'n' play.

As for bad odo's and trips, I'm not sure(I wouldn't think so).
My 96 SE had 207K, with no apparent problems.

Buy a new one?!! Why?!! I'm picking up a used one(can't say where) for $50.
It has 19K more miles than my car, but for $25 some guys at Team Nissan
are sending it off to get it calibrated. How much is a new one?

fist check your speed sensor. if thats not it, buy a used cluster and swap out the speedo head. a new speedo head fomr the dealer goes for aout 300 bucks. there are 4 screws on the back of the sluster that holds in the head.

Yeah but if i buy a used cluster, won't it have the same problem as my previous one somewhere down the line. Thats why it doesn't make sense to me to get a used one. Unless i'm wrong. Any other input?

my '96 has 120k miles on it and i have yet to have any problems with my speedo head.

the way i see it is you can either pay 50 bucks for a used one now and MAYBE it will die on you later on, or you can buy a new one for 300. id take my chances with the used one, or i would just drive with a busted one and get free miles.

Thank you for showing me the light. Thanx for the input.

BTW, any Nissan dealership can recalibrate it right?
