Replacing clutch - Recommended upgrades?
#41
Finally got my kit in, I'm going to install my new clutch this weekend with the help of my buddy. Can't wait!
Btw, I noticed that the 5th gen clutch disc part# had changed. In the invoice it says "new bin". Part # is C0100-6E600. Also, the release bearing part # changed to 30502-41U20. Anyone else noticed this?

I heard that the Exedy (Daikin) one is the oem replacement. I've been told that the 5th gen clutch has noticeably more bite, than the 4th gen one.
Also, looking at the pilot bushing, it looks off-circle. Kinda oval in shape. I've never seen one before so I was just wondering if this is suppose to be this way.

My pilot bushing is not oval at all... it is perfectly round.

I don't know... sounds like it could be. I am looking at the clutch disc right now and it says Nissan on it. It also says Valeo on it (not value).

Your best bet is to buy the parts from Pinnacle Nissan. That alone will save you a lot of money. Indepedent shops and dealers are known to mark up prices. If you do your own price hunting at online dealers, you will be better equipped with that knowledge when you go to a dealership and you can bargain. Or you can just purchase online and pay for shipping. All you have to do now is look for a shop that will do the work for a reasonable price.

This thread should answer your question. If you haven't done so, read from page 1. I chose to do what many have done, get the 5th gen clutch. Read more for details.

Dr Max, you have to let us know how your install goes and how your new clutch works. I'm looking forward to hearing it.
I ordered a clutch from everything nissan last week and I got it very quickly. The price of the disk was jacked-up from 54.95 to 75.55, as indicated above. All other items were priced as quoted above by I30. With that exception, which I'll attribute to bad luck, my experience with EN was very good. I called the 800 number and the parts guy was very helpful and courteous. I made sure I was not buying a Key Value clutch and, interestingly, he said it is the exact same part as the OEM. Regardless, I told him I didn't want one and there were no problems. He indicated the Key Value clutches go with clutch kits and there is no kit for the 5th Gen Maxima so I couldn't get one even if I asked for it.
It sounds like there are two good options for nissan parts in the Phoenix, AZ area. Maybe the next 5th Gen clutch owner can take advantage of the competition and get a better deal from one of them.
I started this thread and I'm glad I did because there is some great info here. I got the 5th Gen clutch for a very good price. The pathetic twist is that I was going to put the clutch in today and was printing 4th Gen how-to's last night so I had some good instructions before starting the project. I read about bleeding the clutch and decided I should try it before clutch replacement. I checked my fluid reservoir and it was bone dry. So, I bled the thing and within an hour I had my clutch back. Better late than never. I'm shelving the 5th Gen clutch for use on another day and living vicariously through DR Max's feedback on his project.
Here is a short list of items I figure are worth replacing when I change the clutch: Rear seal; motor mount; transmission mount; front of exhaust (apparently it must come off to get the transmission out and get to the clutch. Given the NE winters and rusting effect, this will be a pain. Seems like the perfect time to add header and Y pipe) Anybody have any other ideas?

True, there is no 5th gen clutch kit. i30ds and I referred to all the components: disc, cover, bushing, and bearing as the kit. A few posts above, you will see a list of part #s which pertains to each of the components. I added the rear main seal to the list because this is what has caused my clutch to slip. The motor oil is soaking the clutch so badly that it was slipping a lot.
I will report back when the clutch is in. I still have to break the new clutch in and after that, I can do some spirited runs to see if I'll notice any difference. My car will be running really well as I have just replaced the KS, fuel filter, and did a CAI mod on the stock airbox.

Need quick help!
I've been farting with this darn rear main seal for almost an hour and no luck. Seems like the rubber gasket that goes below the retainer "O" assembly is too thick or something. Everytime I try to get it in there, the gasket slips off under the retainer. Any tricks in getting this in???? HELP!

OK....this is the worse day of my life!!!!
The new clutch (for 2000 Max) doesn't fit inside the clutch cover (for 2000 Max also). The ones I got from Pinnacle doesn't go together. I can't believe I didn't check this fitment before taking my car apart. I called the local Nissan and they looked up the part #'s. The said that the part #'s that are in this thread are incorrect. Now my tranny is still in the ground and it's 6pm monday!
I'm going to box everything up and ship them back to Pinnacle!!!! I just ordered the stock clutch + cover for a 95 Maxima.

I just ordered the part numbers listed on this thread and then see the post about how the parts didnt go together.
Has anyone ordered the parts listed above and put them all together and they work? I really don't want to have to return any of the parts.
I did notice the part number for the release bearing has changed
30502-41U20 RELEASE BEARING

Is yours a 5th gen clutch also? What part # did you get for the clutch cover? Did you notice a difference between the old one that came out of your car and the 5th gen one? Can you please post your replies in this thread as I have started a new one for the issue that I'm having. Thanks a lot.
