Hi,

I have a 1999 Maxima GLE. 2 days back the Airbag light came on when I started the car and stayed that way. The light stays on since then whenever the car is on.

The car has not been in any accident so airbag shld be fine.

What to do?

Regards,

There is a problem with one or more of your airbags, bring it back to the dealer.
the air bags is under warranty and you will not have to spend out of pocket money.

There was a post saying how to reset the airbag light, try a search. If you have an idea something could be wrong, you should take it to the dealer.

Regards,
This is the procedure for resetting the dashboard Air Bag warning light.
This information came from the '99 Maxima factory service manual.

Open the driver's door. Note the rubber covered button, a button which is
pressed by the door when the door is closed. This is the Driver's Door
Switch (DDS).

Turn the ignition from OFF to ON. Press the DDS at least 5 times within 7
seconds after turning the ignition switch ON. Turn the ignition OFF.
Close the driver's door. Start the engine.

Possible causes for this warning light to go on include...
- a fault with the Air Bag.
- abnormally low voltage in the electrical system due to a weak battery.
- a maladjusted door striker plate such that the door does not close properly,
and the DDS is jiggled on and off constantly as you drive.

If this reset procedure is not successful, or if the warning light returns,
there is a SRS system fault which should be handled by your dealer.

I used Daniel's instructions for my '95 and it worked beautifully. In my case, the light was flashing, and this was after disconnecting the airbag system to work on my center dash electricals. Anyway, it's a quick 'n easy series of steps, worth trying. If it doesn't work the first time, re-read the instructions and try again. If it persists after that, it's time to visit the dealer.
