reluctant start

cold outside and warm outside. cold engine or warm. the engine just seems reluctant to start sometimes. it will crank a few times then it will start but it sounds very weak. i dont think a "weak start" really exists but that describes it.

any ideas?

on a side note, it pulls to the left a little on the freeway. balance seems ok. ive been up to 128mph and it was very smooth and solid, but at normal freeway speeds it has a slight left pull.

It is probably an electrical problem or possibly the starter. More than likely your battery or alternator is going bad.

Pickup a Haynes manual for $20, the troubleshooting section has various symptoms and explains what to check to fix ( and then full instructons on fixing it). Amazing value, you'lll use it all the time!

Your problem is defintely described in the troubleshoot section of the haynes manual

check your spark plugs. if u havent changed em in a while i recommend sticking with oem spark plugs which are the ngk iridiums if im not mistaken. theyre ten bucks a piece but well worth it.

when i changed my plugs the cold staart problem went away.

you're in CA. Go to autozone and have them check your alternator and battery for free.

OEM is ngk Platinums. Most go with NGK coppers since they are a lot cheaper, and are supposed to perform a little better buy don't last as long.

It doesn't sound like spark plugs but that is possible.

similar problem as Evil Spork

I am having the same problem as Evil with my 95 Max. Won't start from time to time, very intermitant; it will start after it gets a jump start. Took it it dealer then ran codes and said it may be an knock sensor, what ever that is and replaced it, very expensive, same problem. Ran codes again and they said oxygen sensor may be bad, again very expesive. I did not replace yet. Could it be something else a novice can fix at home?
