I’ve read a lot of posts on Y-pipes, different brands, different year cars,

Regardless of brand, I hear stories of some people have a “bees in a can noise”, and some people with no problems.

I’m trying to figure out whether it’s the Y-pipe, or the Spec of the car that causes this issue.

So basically what I’m looking for is:

Cali Spec + Y-Pipe = (Noise / No Noise)

Fed Spec + Y Pipe = (Noise / No Noise)

People seam to blame the brand, or are just plain puzzled on why their specific car may have noise. It maybe a factor if the Y-Pipe eliminated both precats and the noise just a result.

Only 99-00 have a difference between the cali and the fed spec Y pipes. 95-98 all have the same design of y pipe without the larger front precat which is closer to the fed spec. 01+ have the larger precat and are all cali spec. 99-00 have either one depending cali or fed spec.

I doubt the bees in the can noise has anything to do with the emission spec. It has a lot more to do with the quality of the flex section and the condition it is in.

But don’t 95-98 that are cali spec have one precat that the y-pipe doesn’t eliminate.

95-98 Cali Spec Maxima’s have one precat on the header before the ypipe. (at least this is what I found searching old posts of the topic.

I’m just trying to determine if this had an influence on the sound created by the Ypipe

everything i've seen/experienced leads me to blame the pipe - especially those with flex sections. Stillen Y-pipe with flex section here.. and deffinitely bees in the can.

I had the "bees in a can" sound with my warpspeed fed spec, but once i put on exhaust wrap it went away. It's the flex sections that make the noise

How can you tell if you got fed or cali spec?

Just use some wrap and the noise should go away

I also have bees in the can and I have a budget stainless Y-pipe fed spec wich was not suppose to do that noise....I'm really disappointed with that noise....it sucks!

otherwise, the power is great and I enjoy it..!!

I've had mine wrapped for a while. I wrapped the flex at first, but there were still some upset bees in there. I then wrapped the whole thing and that really helped a lot.

where did you buy that wrapping stuff??? for how much?

i have been told that it doesn’t matter when purchasing the Ypipe they just want to know what year you have. Since i guess they sell the same Y-Pipe for either spec.

i guess i should do that i got warpspeed y-pipe. and it makes that bees in the can noise.

can someone post a clip of this noise?

im considering a y-pipe and i wanna know what i could be getting myself into. (i dont want to get it and HATE the noise)

I bought the wrap from a guy on Ebay. I think that I paid around $30 dollars for it.
