Possible to remove tint on back window?

Tomorrow I want to remove my 35% tint on back window and replace for 20%; tint guy told me is extremelly hard, time consuming, will damage the defroster lines and charge me close to $100.
I someone remove it please advise if will damage defroster and if $100 is fair.

Besides I asked him to tint my windshield 50% as per all car has 35% which is very light for me and he refused, telling me illegal, tickets and he may even get in trouble if cops find out he did it; is it true?

Front windshield is not legal (not in any state that I know of at least).

You will most likely damage the rear defroster lines while pulling the tint - this is true. The defroster lines are extremely fragile - I know - I have damaged them just while giving the rear glass a thorough cleaning.

For the rear tint, use a steam gun and it will peel off with no problems or damage.

100 bucks sounds like a lot to me. I got like 60 dollar quote to get mine removed.
I hope I can get my windsheild tinted and the guy doesn't say what your guy did.
I thought it was illegal though..

I previously worked for a tint shop. I unno what the weather is like in NY right now but too make it a easy job. on a VERY WARM DAY maybe 78 degrees+ get a large black trash bag. Spray some soap water on the rear window (dishwashing soap) and place the trash bag over it. Than close all your windows etc the heat from the inside of your car is going to help the glue release. Than take a small razor blade and peel a little bit and pull the rest off with the trash bag. VERY SIMPLE AND EASY PROCEDURE. Other than that if weather is crap use a steam gun. Use a razor blade get a chunk of film in your hands and steam away as you peal.

Its really that easy? I want to know how exactly you can damage the defroster? Or how ill know if I'm damaging it. I want to do this myself and save myself money but I want to know that I won't damage the defroster. My tint is already bubbling slightly.

i would try this method out. i ruined my defroster by taking off my tint with only a razor blade. good luck. cant they just put another layer of tint over the old one. my cousins did that to his truck and never had any problems

You damage the defroster or antenna by cutting the contact with the razor blade. I ruined several of my lines but I didn't do the trash bag method. Give it a shot. It would have made the process a lot easier.

You can put new tint if the old tint is still in pretty good condition. If there is bubbling, fading, etc. then it would stupid.

i will be doing this soon.. I know it will be easy because my tint on the rean window is already peeling around the dots on the ends of the window at the top. It sounds like it should be easy, I'll wait til it get a little hotter down here in Louisiana.

I tought of putting another tint on top of one I have as per is in excellent condition but tint guy told me will look really bad by looking inside thru rearview mirror, will be cloudy and weavy, like when they just finished tinting car, like dirty soapy water all over; so forget it; will see what happens tomorrow, if guy not to busy I may go ahead and telling to remove/destroy/replace it for 20%; but will miss defroster in the winter a lot.

Using the poor man's search would have saved some time. Get a steamer (30 bucks from walmart), cover your back speakers with a trash bag, and steam. The tint should be able to peal off in no time.

Tint level laws depend on your state. A ticket for tint being too dark can get expensive. Like $50 a pop.

See examples: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....t=illegal+tint

Check your state rules here: http://www.iwfa.com/iwfa/Law_Chart/S...aw%20Chart.htm

Or if you prefer color: http://www.doityourselftint.com/tintlaws.html
