Cold Start Stall?

When the engine is warm the rpm’s will get really low (almost stall) but then pick up to normal levels on start, BUT when its cold (I don’t mean winter cold I mean summer night cold) the engine stalls on start?

This only started happening the second after I install the y-pipe, naturally the next step is to remove the y-pipe and put the stock one back on but that’s a REAL pain and want to call that my “last resort”.

You think it could be the y-pipe or is it just some frustrating conscience?

thanx

I am assuming no codes are posted via the CEL:

Some quick, easy and cheap things to start with:

1. Clean the throttle body
2. Clean the IACV

I did the throttle body cleaning less then 2 weeks ago, so that’s good to go. I am going to try cleaning the IACV like you suggest I just want to make 100% sure... In the HOW TO section I found a guide to clean the IAC and one to adjust the IACV. I assume cleaning the IAC is what I am looking to do?

Thanks for your help njmodi

Yes. Hopefully you cleaned as much of the intake manifold as you could too. Did it change your cold start behavior?

Ya I scrubbed the hell out of it, don’t know if it fixed the cold start stall because it’s a beautiful day out and the car is toasty, will find out 2morow morning.

I will keep update

hummmm I don’t know... the true test will be 2morow morning but I just started her up and the RPM's shoot up on start (normally) then drop fast and then even out. the drop is what kills the start on cold morning, now when I just did it now the drop only got to 500rpms which isn’t 2 bad... but like I said is very warm out 2day... so fingers crossed that the cleaning did it but pessimistically I don’t think it did.

njmodi You are a GENIOUSE!! It starts perfectly, I think when I first cleaned it and started it for a test it was the same because maybe the ECU had to get the new values or something alone those lines… but now when I start it… ohhh its perfect better then when first got the car, njmodi I cant thank you enough I was really worried that there was a serious (and costly) problem with my max.
