Exhaust Question

I am looking at replacing the whole damn exhaust system except the manifold but unfortunately, I don't know a damn thing. So, this is what I know...I know my flex pipe braiding is melting (in fact, half of its burned off) so I was told that was my catalatic convertor is getting gunked up. Also, the heat shield is falling off and my muffler is rusting.

So, I'm pretty sure the whole thing needs to get replaced. Am I right on this assumption? What kind of exhast is decent sounding but somewhat cheap. I don't like rice but I don't want quiet...I'd rather have 'mean'. I would rather buy the parts that I need and have a shop put them on for me than for the shop to sell me them also.

Thanks for any help.

well if you know that the problem is with the cat then you can start there and work your way to the muffler. Replace the cat and then get a catback exhaust system. greddy makes a great system for the maxima and it will run you about $600 and you will definitely get the sound you are looking for. You can also buy the b-pipe, straight pipe, and muffler separately if you want.

since i get all my knowledge from reading these forums and not from experience(my exhaust is all stock) i would suggest you just do some reading on the subject. good luck!

You can do it 2 ways;
1) Buy everything at once
2) Buy it piece by piece

Its not a fact that your CAT is messed up, you gota check it out.

Stillen, Cattman, Warpspeed, Budget, CM, stone racing all make Y pipes for our cars. Do some research to find out which members like the best. There's TONS of "y pipe" threads.

Your cat CAN stay stock, there's not much to lose or gain w/ a new cat (unless yours is toast) - B pipes come in all assortments also (and it catback systems from Greddy, JIC, Apexi...etc)
