Is this good gas mileage?
Got my max a week ago and have put 150 miles on it so far. ive used a half tank, so im gonna go with 320 miles a tank if im not stupid and do burnouts(i know.. i had to do it). Anyway, is that a good figure? thanks for info

Run it down to empty, refill and devide the miles you have then by the number of gallons you put it. Do this like three times and average them out. Until then everything is just innaccurate speculation...you've been around here long enough to know that.

320 per gallon is pretty dam good.

everyone "full tank" definition is different...thats why MPG is a better indicator-----Recently Ill get about 21-23 MPG around town and about 26 when I go on a trip..but remember that not tuned at all...Ill know better once my injectors/MAF/JWT all go in, about a week

No way, with a boost you will get that much gas mileage around the city. Unless you drive speed limit all the time.
Force Inductions means forcing more air into each cylander which cause the ECU to Spary more gas into each Cylander.
So if you are not filling up your gas tank due the reason you gave us. So how do you go say 320 For a full gas tank it aint that good.
When i say full gas tank, I mean when your Fuel Gauge is on F.

I don't drive like a grandma. I always drive about 10% above the speed limit on the highway and use cruise control a lot when doing so. I'm not particularly enthused about picking up tickets. I have no idea how people in the US get away driving 90 on the highway all the time and still have a drivers licence.
I pick my spots as to when I want to put the boots to my car and its typically away from civilization and there's lots of places in British Columbia where that can be done.

320 on A FULL tank would be 17.297 MPG figuring we have a 18.5 Gallon tank...320 devided by 18.5 = 17.297...What, are you driving a frig*n SUV ??
Remember, you can drive around town without Boosting all that much...boost only kicks in when you lay on the throttle...

yea 320 a tank is really bad. that's what i got with a bad KS and o2's. I just switched out the KS and now getting around 190-200 at the half mark and about 350 halfway between empty and 1/4 [that's about 2-3 gallons left] . I'm happier now even moreso because of gas being $2.30 .
maybe you should do a simple tuneup. plugs, pcv, iacv, clean the TB, change the air filter, all that good stuff. and make sure your tires are inflated to 32f/29r

when your light comes on you still have a reserve of 2 gallons or something left. The only real way to gauge fuel economy is to do the math when you fill it up! The gauge doesnt mean anything, ill get 250 miles out of my first half a tank, then it will run down to empty after only 175 more with the same driving. Doing the miles/gallons filled calculations i consistently end up with 21.xx MPG with combined driving and 25-26 on highway trips.

A V8 SUV, for example Lincoln Navigator, will give you 10 mile per gallon for city driving. My brother is owner of one, and I always have to here him complain about gas, and gas prices.

i just changed my knock sensor and with all the crazy driving i have done to "test" out my new-found performance and running the A/C now, I got in a bit over 400 miles on this tank.
before, i was getting between 360-380 miles a tank. This is all 70-80% highway driving (between 70-85 mph) and the rest downtown driving.

ill ask my brother what his latest mpg is (4thgen) ... his is fed-spec but he is all city driving.

I check my MPG time to time and average between 21 to 24 MPG in mixed driving. 26 to 28 all highway.

Do the MPG calculation as described above three or more times to get a more accurate measure of econmomy.

People are ignorant as it can get....
I said IN citiy driving, where there are a lot's of traffic lights and other crap, like traffic, accident, where you are stuck.
It all depends with the way you drive. SOme people have a heavy foot.

I said "putting the boots" to my car, not "boost". What I meant was stepping on the gas, accelerating, going faster than normal, etc. I stated that I typically drive 10% over the speed limit. I also try to avoid jack rabbit starts. But I have a Budget y-pipe and K&N panel filter and I sometimes like to get on it.
And no I don't drive slow all the time. I have had my car up to 145 mph once about 8 years ago and it continues to run like a charm.
Probably a fundamental difference between the gas mileage I experience and what you are used to is the traffic. I suspect traffic volume in New Jersey is horrendous, either when commuting or on so-called highway driving.
Maybe I just have a good car and it was properly broken in, if there is such a thing. Another key difference is that I run good Canadian gas, which has different additives than that crappy US gas you are forced to buy.
If you don't believe me, come to Canada and try it some time. Its common knowledge in this country that US gas, particularly lower octane, is crap.

By saying all this, I conclude that, you drive slow most of the time, and when you feel like speeding you speed with out catching any tickets, and you still manage to get 350 Mile to a full gas tank, and still do all that.

Reset your trip odometer. Fill up.
The next time you fill up, divide the miles you drove by the # of gallons it takes to fill the tank back up.
400 miles / 15 gallons = 26.67 mpg
Next topic we're covering is the quadratic equation.

A key difference, is not gas you use in cannada, infact cannada gas is lower then us.
Buddy read what you wrote before.
I know how to Calculate MPG, do you know how to calculate yours, since you use diffrent meassuring system then US. There are many diffrent ways of Calculating the MPG.

I do not use lower Octane gas, in my maxima. Only Shell V-Power 93 Octane goes into my maxima.
#32
What do you mean Canadian gas is lower than yours? I can readily buy octane as high as 94 and premium is 91 at most stations and 92 at Chevron. Mid-grade is 89, while Husky has 90. Low grade is 87.
And yes I can calculate mpg and my comment wasn't aimed at you. I am an accountant. And the last time I checked a mile was a mile. My mpg conversions are all expressed in US. There is 4.546 litres to an Imperial gallon and 3.785 litres to a US gallon.
There is something fundamentally wrong with a 4th Gen Maxima that only gets 280 miles or 320 miles to a tank. Like I said, I have never gotten less than 350 miles when commuting and I have had over 550 miles to a tank highway drivng. albeit driven with the light on for some time. And that entails going from sea level where I live, into the Interior of BC, while climbing to an elevation of 7,000 feet over the 2nd highest mountain pass in the province while crusing at 75 mph with passengers and luggage.

What type of mods, have you done to your 95 Nissan maxima? I assume none.
I have a Y-Pipe and JWT pop Charger, I drive my car very hard, And i average about 320-340 for a full gas tank. Also where I live, there is way too many cars, which means more traffic. The Mileage i get, it is all city driving.

Good work, Dexter! You've gone from complaining about having to fill up once a week in your recent thread entitled Fuel Management in a 4th Gen to now claiming you get 27mpg, which isn't too bad if its a combination of city and highway driving. So either there has been a miraculous turnaround in your fuel consumption or you've had a change of heart, lol!

I said I have a Budget y-pipe and K&N panel filter - no other performance mods. My car has 58,400 original miles on it and I've owned it since day 1. It is highway driven 80% plus and is not a daily driver. Its a 5-speed in mint condition. I still have the OEM NGK platinum plugs and use 89 octane fuel most of the time. I am also running the OEM 15" sawblades with the original Goodyear Eagle RSA 215-60R-15 tires, which are good for another 5 or 6K.
I don't drive it like I stole it and try not to use it too much for city driving as I have another car for that purpose. 320 to 340 miles for straight city driving isn't all that bad, given you drive the car like a rented mule.
And no, I don't want to be accused of driving like a granny because I don't. I just don't do very much city driving in the car and pick my spots on the highway given the RCMP are very adept at nailing speeders. And contrary to popular opinion they don't ride horses.
