car dies when I come to a stop

say I'm driving down the street and I come to a red light, when I push in the clutch, the RPM drops to 0 and the car dies. Lately I have been experiencing a vacuum/RPM problem. I occasionally have a whistle at idle which i think is a vacuum leak and my RPM is occasionally erratic but wasnt much to worry about. Now the whistle is still subtle but the RPM problem has increassed, it dies when i come to a stop and sometimes is jumping arround.

I also have air in my clutch line and need to bleed it so maybe the clutch is sticking a little, but that wouldnt cause the car to die since i put it into neutral when i stop. I'm thinking maybe a bad throttle position sensor? or maybe a problem with IAC or EGR? Can anyone give me some insight on this? Thanks.

Hey...funny thing, my car is in the shop now for the same problem. It only happens when I have been in stop and go traffic for about 30 minutes. It'll run smoothly abd then it will start to idle erratically. Hopefully I'll know tomorrow what's wrong with it.

Sounds like the EGR valve needs to be replaced. Same thing happened to me with my 95.

when this happened on your '95 did you get a CEL? how did you come ot the conclusion that the EGR was at fault?

anyone else have some input?

well I tested the TPS. the ohms of resistance is in the normal range, but when I test is for voltage, I get nothing, making me think that the ECU is not sending a signal, but I am still getting the proper resistance.

I also checked the EGR. I didnt take it out, but i put my finger inder it and the little diaphram like thing moves. How should i check the EGR, what do I look for?

anyone else? turbomax67, when you had your egr replaced, did you get a cel or a code sayting it was bad?

I have noticed that my car dies when I push in the clutch and the engine is hot but have driven it for less than a 1/2 mile. After that the rpm's drop to 450 and then go back up to 625. Putting the car in neutral and letting off the clutch prevents the car from dying on me. I thought it could have been the lightened flywheel. I also may have forgotten to plug in some connectors.

A vacuum leak will cause stalling at idle. Fix that leak first and see if you still have the problem.
