Is this an alternator problem???

Well last night I was driving normally, but then all fo a sudden I realize my battery light and my e-brake light on my instrument cluster are on. My ebrake was not on and I have no idea why the battery light was on. I didnt know what was wrong so I kept driving, but then all of a sudden my interior dash lights got dimmer and dimmer. The clock was fading and my HIDs would turn off on their own. I would turn them back on but a few seconds later they would turn off. Also, my RPM gauge would not even work, its like the RPMs would drastically fall to 0 or just stay at 0, once in a while it would move but it acted like it was dead. I went home, could barely put the windows up, had to try a few times for some of them, woke up in the morning, car wont start. This sound like an alternator problem? Whats the best route to go about fixing this, anyone have any good ideas? Thanks!

The best solution is to have the alternator tested. Can you jump start the car? You may need to get a rebuilt alternator. You should get your battery tested also to ensure it will hold a charge.

well my car cant move, i wasnt able to jump start it in the morning. I have an optima yellow top, but it looks like the car was runnign on pure battery on the way home. I'll try and jump start it so i can drive it to my job where i have all my tools and stuff. How much do you think i'm looking at for new alty with labor? I hear its a tough project to do.

I have no idea of the cost. The only thing electrical I've done on my 95SE is to replace the original battery a little over 2 years ago.

However, it sounds like the alternator is shot to me.

+1 for alternator. i had that problem when i had my 95. alternator from a local shop cost me ~200 to replace along with a new battery and starter.
total cost was about 600 for everything.

had to replace starter cuz i kept trying to turn it on and killed the starter.

Just get a rebuilt alternator, you don't need to get a new one.

Recall for a 95??? Bogus! Our cars are 10 years old. Why would Nissan do recall work on a car that is way out of warranty???

Precisely! A recall on a 95 Maxima is simply wishful thinking.
