D2 Coil overs vs K-sport
#3
I got the chance to ride in a 2k2 yesterday equipped with KSports. The ride was amazing (felt stock) for how low he dropped his car, and there was NO noise. From what I have been reading all over the .org, it seems to be that the Ksports are of better quality than the D2s.

ive heard of parts wearing out/ripping apart on the D2's and also MANY people have noise issues according to the d2 group deal thread ... I think im gonna go with TEIN basics, havent heard of any problems with the teins....I also read that Mr.Duck is starting to have noise issues with the Ksports, small amount of noise, but its still noise

From what I have gathered,
4th gen, D2 and Ksports are the same.
5th gen, D2 and Ksports are different, being that the bottom mount is different, the D2 uses allen bolts to tighten while the Ksport has a screw on column. Dunno if that is the correct description but you will noticed it, it was posted in a thread in the 5th gen forum. He order both and eventually returned the Ksport.
Earlier D2 has had noise problems but supposely they were resolved but people still experienced noises. Ksport has noises too so they are not immune to it. So I would say they are both the same quality. I have D2 but they are not installed yet so I can't tell you my personal experience yet.

Don't the d2s allow you to choose from a wide variety of spring choices while the ksports do not? I'm not nesscary saying this is good or not, especially since I believe the d2s come with the same shock valving no matter what spring ratring you choose. What sort of warrenty is avaliable on either?

this was taken from ksportusa.com:
36-way adjustable dampening
Made from high quality 6061 Aluminum with T6 for increased hardness
Compression/Rebound adjustable
Adjustable spring perch for height adjustment
Adjustable body allowing maximum suspension travel
Pillow Ball Top Mount w/ adjustable camber (not available for some models)
Monotube High Pressure Design reduces oil leakage
Electroplated body for protection from corrosion and rust
One Year Limited Warranty

seems eerie doesnt it???
they're practically the same....i've heard complaints on both sides of the spectrum so yeah...i guess the only real difference is the powder coating and anodizing....

That was me
I am glad I went with the D2's, I only had noise when I first installed them because I did not tighten down the alan bolts enough. After I did, noise was gone. The ride on D2's is great and I have been hearing that people are getting noise from the KSports, evidently the lock nut cannot stay tight from steering and it is making noise...
D2 also does have a much better range of spring choices.

They have a larger range of spring choices but only one shock choice. So at the begining of the spectrum at low rating springs the coilover is over dampened and at the high end of the avaliable spring rating spectrum it is under dampened. So there is really only one spring rating that is truely matched to the shock.

-no noise (only stupid ppl that think they can get away w/o any spring preload get noise, meaning they don't adjust the perch where the spring sits. The spring is hanging on the air, thats what makes the noise)
-great quality
-great ride
