The VQ doesn't have a timing belt. It's a chain, so no replacement is normally needed.

All Maxima engines since the VE30DE have had timing chains, no replacement is normally needed.

In your sig you have a 3rd gen Maxima. If it has the VG30E (160hp) it has a timing belt (which should be replaced every 60k). If it has the 190hp VE engine, it has a chain. All 4th gens and 5th gens have the chain driven VQ engine.

Chains do stretch and will eventually break, but not anywhere near as quick as the belt. I'd say the chain should go 200K, might consider changing it at 150K.

Belts aren't as good because they stretch much quicker and their characteristics change under heat and cold. The chain is less susceptible to these changes.
