The Time To Mod Is Now!!
I was surfing yahoo and I noticed that cobalt,Mazda 6, V6 Accord 240HP, and Dodge Neon SRT all have more power than the Maxima.... Our Generation is going to get killed if we dont start modding.....
I'm not sure but how can we spank these New cars? Y-pipe and ECU? would this be enough to get these new cars off our sexy car ***.
BTW has you seen the Pontiac New car slotsice ? i think it looks nice.

Did you think that our generation Maxima was going to be the limit of HP and TQ forever. In my opinion I think you should be happy for the fact that it took almost 10 years for other car companies to exceed the power that nissan made for the Maxima. And if you think about your car. Let's say you bought it for $6000, those people buy theirs for $20,000+. So this leaves at least a $14,000 between how much they have spent and how much you have. So now apply $14,000 worth of mods to your car and I'm quite sure you would easily over take any of the cars you mentioned.

IMHO the Solstice is Pug-Ugly, however, it's production twin, the Saturn Sky is probably one of the most aggressive looking, sexy production roadsters ever, I can't beleive it has a Saturn badge on it... And the Cobalt is the replacement for the Cavalier... I seriously doubt it will be any less of an unreliable POS as the junker it's replacing, I owned a '90 (2nd gen) Z24 with the 3.1L V6, and IMHO, the Cav went downhill from 3rd gen (91-93) onward.

What I'm wondering is where you got those numbers...There are three trims with 220 hp engines, and four trims with 160 hp engines. That means most of them are lower than gen4 maxes. Also, the Chevy cobalt only has 145hp, except for the SS-Supercharged trim which only has 205 hp, not very much considering the supercharger...they plateu off well before maximas.
Cars right now have insane horsepower if you ask me. For instance, a 2002 Firebird (trans am) has the same horsepower as a 2005 Hummer. No, I am not joking.
Honestly what I don't like is all the fscking malibus I see driving around.

Yeah, modified maximas are definatly some of the best looking cars on the road..but take mine for example, it looks like a granny mobile with those damn sawblades...ahhhh...at least i know i can whoop all my friends(besides 375whp camaro) if we decide to go to a track anytime.

if you want a more powerful car go with somethin else. These cars are around 10 years old, there not gonna be faster than all these new turboed cars. besides our gen max is one of the nicest lookin cars out there, and for the price, NOTHIN beats a max as far as looks and power.

A non ss cobalt does the 1/4 mile in mid 16s even with the ss, it is low 15s at best. Mazda 6 is high 15s. Honda accord V6 5AT (not manual is only available in the coupe) is low 15s. All of these are no problem to hold with. The only one to worry about is the SRT4... those little **** boxes are in the low 14s/ high 13s!!! But even then if you throw on all the bolt ons (intake, y and b pipes, mevi, ecu, clutch, flywheel), you should be able to run with an SRT4.

Another additional point ot two- SRT's are little, not able to carry cargo/peeps in the same comfort. Plus, its pretty cool that it takes a new little mini-rocket that is turbo'd to compete with our better looking N/A 4-door sedan that is about a decade older and could practically fit a neon in the trunk!! (slight exaggeration, ok...)
One of the coolest things about the 4th gen is that it is comparatively light (often 500 lbs lighter than a comperable car), and also has a good wheelbase for stability/predictability.
The only mistake I made when buying my maxima was the optional warranty- not neccesary.

The problem is when you add up I/Y/B/Mevi/ECU/Clutch/Flywheel ... you are talking about 2-3 grand in mods. For people like me, being 18 years old, forking out even 500 bucks is serious. I love spending money on my car, but when I think about college and all that. It isn't easy to spend money when you are tight financially like me.

At least you get to start out with a sweet ride, and build on it from there. better than a $300 a month lease!
But if you want to spend wisely, do this: Y pipe and ECU and weight reduction.
(if you arent into looks as much as performance get some 15" light wheels for $400, machiii.net)
That can be around $1100 and you have a 14 second car!!
#26
yeah most of those are cars are nothing special....the 04 accord coupe(stick) will pull a 6.1 0-60 ... thats a tuff win ... and the srt-4 is a fast little f**ker ... supercharger is your best bet...theres one used in the classifieds for 2600$... not to shabby .... even more depressing, the new hyundai has 235 horse, lol ... ahhhh its aggrivating .... but the people who poseted before me are correct, this car is 10 years old .... new cars handle better and go faster, thats why your paying so much

My first car was a neon, and I loved it! If I weren't a maxima guy I'd probably be an SRT-4 guy. Oddly enough, the SRT-4 isn't that light. It's within 200 lbs of most maximas (curb weight)...
And I don't know if you guys know this, but the SRT-4 is turbocharged. With a turbocharger on a Max you can probably beat one.

I think comparing a car that is almost 10 years old to those new cars isn't worth your time... the 4th Gen is a great car, looks wise and performance wise, especially when ya compare it to all the cars that came out in those years, and even vs some of the cars that came out in the years following. If ya wanna beat em, just add a SC... heck if I had a 4th Gen I'd do it... the thought of selling my 5th Gen to get a SCed 4th Gen still crosses my mind from time to time...

well the reason the max has a good hp number is because we drive the flagship model as far as sedans go in the nissan corp.
also all the cars execpt the mazda 6 are not in our catagory as far as anything goes. most of them would out handle, out accel and out brake our max. and once the mazdaspeed 6 comes out with 270+awdhp comes out then it would be way faster.
the cobalt ss has and will pull a constant stock mid to low 14sec time in the 1/4. it would also pull away from most 4th gen maxes on this board. its nothin like the old caviler that it replaces. i have had the chance tp drive one and i was very impressed.
also there are some people on this forum that have owned their maxes since it was brand new so the paid full price for their cars just like these people are doing for the newer cars.

What's to say that these new cars hooked up will out run 4th gen fully modified. I mean I love my car and I hope that Nissan is doing more engineering to make maximas out handle out perform all these POS new cars.

the srt4 has a near cult like following. if u pick a mag or look at a online store u would see tons of support and praise for it. i by no means plan to buy one but for a car to come from its humble begining to stand on top of the sport sompact market is a huge deal. the people who dislike the srt4 tend to be people who r jealous of what the car has become.
i dont know about u but very few people see a max and have the same reaction as they do when they see a srt4 and thats because their markets are so different. and for those of us who are into modding cars we know that the max isnt a good bet but its what we have and we roll wit it. but dont get it twisted because i personally know many people that hate maxes....some chick didnt like it just cause it had 4 doors.
ohh and my friend who weighs 260lbs drove his bone stock srt4 to a 13.98 at the track and if the people u see with that car pull a mid to high 14 they should lose the right to drive it.

well one of my friends has a srt-4, and its pretty nice... exhaust, stage 2 ecu, downpipe, 19lbs. boost. Sounds pretty sick. Lined up at the track with him, when he was at 13lbs, lower than stock, and he walked me really bad.(top 2nd, 3rd) Keepin in mind he cant fully floor his car, cuz 1st is useless. (he needs electronic boost controller to lower boost in 1st). ALL i have is intake, y pipe, cat-back. Our top-end is pretty , thats why ecu and mevi help dramatically. When that turbo spools up, we can't compete. If you want a fast max, 3.5 swap w/ complete supporting mods + forced induction, which makes reliability go down the drain. So all in all, a max is not meant to be fast, but is quick, and stylish.
