muffler replacement q's
muffler replacement q's
My 99gxe needs a new muffler. I thought I'd take the opportunity to possibly install something better if it's not too expensive. The exhaust system is stock, and I don't want anything loud. I realize that real performance gains begin with a Y-pipe, and that gains from a muffler alone might be nominal, but I figured if I HAVE to replace it anyway...
1. Is Dynomax a good choice for low noise/price/performance, or are there others I should consider? (Does anyone have the part#?)
2. What is the stock inlet/outlet pipe diameter? (It looked like 2", but I'm not sure.) Can I go a bit larger (2.25~2.5) fairly easily, or is it better to stick with the stock size?
3. I believe the muffler has a center inlet/offset outlet. Is this correct and sufficient information to start looking for a replacement, or do I need more information?
4. Do I need to have a shop weld on "hanger bars" or is there another way to go about it?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Dynomas turbo muffler is what you want, with out a doubt. I had a muffler shop install it and they used the stock hanger bars off of my old muffler so it would sit in there perfectly.
