Electrical problem with tail lights - solved

Hi,

I'm having a problem with my tail lights. Yesterday they just stopped working completely. My brake lights still work but both tail lights are out (don't turn on when my lights come on). I checked the fuse and it was burned out. However, as soon as I replace it, it just burns out again. Now everytime I hit my breaks, my front clearance lights come on (the ones next to the headlights). Any one have any ideas of what to check first? I'm assuming there's a short circuit or a faulty wire somewhere but I'm not even sure where to check.

Thanks for your help,
Spencer

Just a quick note - problem solved. Turns out one of the 1157 bulbs for the tail lights had shorted out. Not burned out completely, but the brake light element (the shorter one) had melted on one side and fused that side of both elements (tail and brake) together. That's probably why my front clearance lights would only come on when I hit my brakes. My door chime and license plate light was also affected by this and would only work when my brake lights came on. A quick change of the 1157 and another 7.5A fuse in the tail light location fixed the issue.

Thanks,
Spencer
