95 to 97 rear conversion

I have a 95 GLE and a friend of mine recently backed into me. I need a new bumper cover and both driver side taillights.

I was thinking of doing the 97 conversion while i got the car in the shop. Is all i need a 97-99 trunk lid and tails? Also will the 97-99 bumper fit?

I read the how tos but all i saw was a long argument on the topic with no answer.

All help is appreciated.

The basics are this......Buy a 97 trunk and tailight set. They'll fit on the car without difficulty. The list of parts you need are as follows..

97' trunklid
'97 brakelights
'97 bumper

All parts will fit . If they don't, don't hesitate to message me.

all you need is the trunk lid and tails, bumper isnt required, get the bottom latch too just in case your stock latch doesnt hold it shut

Don't you need a separate key to open the trunk anyways?Just use the keyless entry remote.

I swapped keyholes so I can use my same key. Keyless doesnt work I need the 97 bottom latch, it just makes the sound as if you have that lock latch up.

yes i was in that boat, it would pop, but nothing happened. my stock latch didnt even keep the lid locked shut at all times. i would slam the lid 5-6 times for it to finally grasp and hold it shut. you may not need it but get the latch off of whatever car u find it just in case, you may never run into another 97+ again and it may be your only opprotunity.

Just fix what you have, the 95/96 rear end looks better anyway IMO, the 95/96 taillights look better without the red corner wedges by the turn signals as found on the 97-99 models. And I like the spread out "M A X I M A" instead of the letters being scrunched together...but that's just my opinion - to each his own. Whatever you decide, good luck!

Word Diggity! At least you can swap back the old setup if the converison is too much trouble...can't say that about every mod.

Hey can someone help me out i cant post as yet im a newbie but i have a problem i have a 95 max and one day i was cleaning the trunk and this wire came droppin out from inside of the trunk it looked like a switch or something it was rapped around with electrical tape i as like wtf?? i pushed it back in the trunk and closed it next day i tried to open the trunk and it doesnt open I converted the rear to 99 and all it does it make that clicking noise but the trunk still doesnt open. Can it be that wire the dropped down???

Another thing is that i converted the rear to a 99 and for some reason the trunk doesnt line up as good. the right side is ok but the left side has this gap. What can i do to make it line up properly???? Click the link below to see some pictures i took not the best quality but it do. Thanks to all who helps.

you CAN adjust the latching mechanism to have the trunk sit lower when latched.

When the trunk close should there be a gap between the back window and trunk? or should it be close to the window. Reason why I ask is because the right corner of the trunk is closer to the back window while the left side has a gap between the window and trunk. It looks easy but its tricky

So have you not tried to use the play in the mounting bolts to shift it around a little?

And have you tried using your key in the trunk lid to open it up?

Thanks man I fixed the latch mechanism it was pushed down to much. So all I did was pushed it back up into place and it worked like a charm . By any chance does anyone here know what the hell is this thing? It came from inside of my old trunk and it connects to the wire hardness I dont know what to do with this wire or was its suppose to do. Image is below.
