For the cost of going to a Jiffy Lube (or whatever they're called in your state), its hardly worth doing it yourself. Just make sure you use GL4 75W90 or 80W90. Do not use GL5. I had mine done recently and its cheaper than a regular dino oil change and they dispose of the old gear oil.

I am going to rebuild it in a month, I just wanted to make sure it is still at the right level so that it doesnt get damaged further till i have time for a rebuild.

The Haynes manual does not provide any explicit instructions for removing the filler plug from the side of the manual transaxle. It just says to remove it and to measure with your finger to feel that the oil level is at the plug opening.

I suspect to loosen it you turn it counter-clockwise.

Give Jiffy Lube or someone like that a call. They must encounter this from time to time. Maybe its been threaded incorrectly and they can get it loose with an air tool if you don't have one.

Mine opened w/o much effort. I only used a 1/2" ratchet, no breaker bar needed. Make sure you are turning it counter-clockwise. And be careful because you can end up cracking the transmission case. Try using penetrating oil on it too.

heat the plug up, then break it free with a breaker bar. the "glue" is just a sealent.
