18 inch rims...

has anyone ever dynoed their cars with 18s??does it prove to be lower??or is it fine??

i somewhat think that its a myth...because my 18s are the exact same diameter as my stock rims...the tires just got thinner..

i dunno i just have a feeling that our car is different in this case( like it is with the intake)i really dont think that 18s make our cars slower....

its gonna be the wheel weight, not the size that determines how it effects power and acceleration. on a dyno, you probably ownt see much difference if any.

The ARS AR1, 18x8, which is a BBS licensed knock-off, weighs 22.0 lbs. Also costs $219. If I'm not mistaken, that weighs less than a stock 16x6.5. So like the original poster said, it's a myth. Sometimes people get an idea in their heads, and even though the paradigm has shifted, they hang on to their old ideas. Inertia? Sure. Negligible? Sure.

Just like LCD screens--everyone thinks they're better. Sure, many advantages (weight, power consumption, throwing it away and recycling, etc.). Probably better for most. But refresh rate and contrast ratio are two things where the LCD cannot compare to CRT.

You can believe what you want, but it's simple physics.

Take two wheels, both weighing the same. One has the weight concentrated at the rim, the other is distributed over the entire wheel. The power required to accelerate a wheel is proportional to its polar moment of inertia, which itself is proportional to its radius of gyration. The wheel with its weight concentrated at the rim has a higher radius of gyration, and therefore takes more power to accelerate than the other wheel.

wait...so does that mean that my 18s perform better than my 15s??

those things wreaked of weight...even with the tires...i really think they both weigh the same...

Just dyno on whatever you have on and stop trying to be a dyno queen, the difference will be minimal +/-2% ...

I dynoed with my 18's and Im sure they effected the numbers. With my mods I expected to see higher numbers but consistently hit around 177.
I plan on redynoing with steelies just to see the difference.
