Car shaking over 60mph?!

Just purchased my 98' SE manual and even after a 4 wheel alignment and balancing all the the wheels, any speed over 60mph the steering wheel vibrates and the car shakes like crazy. Feels a bit like the car is running over some real rough terrain. Are the aftermarket 18's to blame? Thanks for any input.

I was having the same issue. Check your wheels for dents. specially your front ones. Even if you balance your wheels it will still do it. Another thing that can cause this problem is uncentered wheels. Did you use centering nuts when you installed the wheels. If you didn't it could also lead to a wheel that is not totally centered on the hub and that could also lead to bibrations.

Thank you kindly for the info. The car was bought with the 18's already on it. You think mounting stock 16's would remedy the problem?

I had the same problem with aftermarket 17z, the said they came balanced from the company but they weren't, even when I took them to get them balanced the head tech there said alot of time aftermarket wheels don't balance well. Also if the rim is slightly bent but not visible to the untrained eye, it will vibrate. When you take it to get it balanced and they put it on the machine ask them to tell you if it is bent.

Oh yeah, there are some rims that require hub centric rings, it depends on the brand, I have Alessio F1s and they rode like garbage because I forgot to put the hub rings on.

You might want to check your rotors. I just had the same issue and had to have the rear replaced

i had the same problem and it was a bubble in the tire itself. swaped tires and fixed the problem.

1. Make sure your tires are not worn out unevenly. If so, get new tires.
2. Make sure the wheels aren't bent anywhere.
3. See if you need hubcentric rings. They fill the gap between the hub and the wheel when you put it on the car. contact www.discounttiredirect.com if you need a set - about $20.
4. Check brakes, wheel bearings, tie rods, & suspension for any damage / loose parts.
