Lower Intake Manifold - help-

Does anyone know how hard it is to replace the lower intake manifold?
I can do oil changes, brake work, springs & struts, light body work, replace alternator, stuff like that.

I have to replace me lower intake manifold now - Cali. Spec.
Just wanted to know if anyone has done it before, how hard is this?

Well, you must mean the intake manifold, it's on top of engine. If you are new to your Maxima and mechanics and repairing cars in general, removing intake would be a challenging first project I think.....?

There is a lower intake manfold but why do you want to replace it ??

Its really not that hard...all the stuff comes off the upper, the upper comes off, than the lower just unbolts and comes off...make sure you replace all gaskets...most of them are one time use, especially the upper manifold gasket

Alot of guys replace the Upper Intake Manifold and put on a different manifold (MEVI)

Most of you are idiots. Our intake manifold is made of two parts, the upper and the lower.

Thx Dave - I do realize this.
My Max isn't passing emissions right now in the state of Mass.
I get a check engine code of P1130 - which is the swirl control valve / swirl solenoid.
This little piece of **** is only found on Cali. Spec. Maximas - ie MINE.

My local Nissan mechanic said he has seen this type of bull**** before and I'd have to replace the entire lower intake manifold. So----
this isn't something I so much want to do, as I have to do it to get an inspection sticker.

So-- anyone is any suggestions or comments would be great.
I'm alittle skeptical about this whole deal.

its not too bad i have done it before when i removed the lower intake manifold from my I30. Cali spec should be exactly the same.

Well if you want to get technical, the intake manifold is actually the lower portion. The upper is called the intake plenum/collector.

Relax man...

had he got technical, none of the above would have understood what he was talking about. If he meant exhaust manifold, im sure thats what he would have said.

Yep the bottom half is the intake manifold, the upper part is the intake manifold collector. The intake manifold mounts inbetween the cylinder heads. Also, the fuel rail assembly mounts onto the intake manifold. See page 3-21 of the Chilton Nissan Maxima 93-98 repair manual.

1. Detach everything connected to the upper IM
2. Remove the upper IM
3. Remove the fuel rail and injectors
4. Remove the IM
5. Replacement is the opposite.
