Just Curious If It Has Been Done Before

I tried to see if anyone has even written up a thread on this but (1)I don't have the priviledge of searching, and (2)I looked all through the FAQ's. Anyways if someone knows anything about it or could do a search for me, that would be awesome. Ok, Ok, the big ques. is:

Has anyone ever put steering wheel controls on a 4th Gen, or does anyone know if it is possible.

I would really like to get steering wheel controls for my head unit like the ones found on the 5th Gen per say but have never heard of anyone doing this. Please point me in the right direction. Pricing, possibilities, etc.

to my knowledge adding the actual controls hasnt ever been done before, but there have been complete steering wheel swaps which had the controls on them. if you were really interested in getting the controls then i would try to swap a 5th gen wheel; but as far as wiring up the controls to your headunit goes thats where i think youll run into some problems.

To search you'll have to donate or find Kevlo's sig he made a free search.

I dont think anyone has attempted the button on the steering wheel. As nice of a thing as this would be, I dont think there is a way to have button on the steering wheel that will interact with the bose unit and change songs, volume etc. Maybe finding out how the 5th gen steering wheel interacts with the Bose unit would put you closer to accomplishing your goal.

I actually am looking to do this with an aftermarket setup (not bose) but I already have the integration aspect covered. So I guess my main concern is just figuring out how to mount buttons (or an entirely new steering wheel) and how expensive it will be.

Just as another note, if you were wondering how: Aftermarket radio can adapt to steering wheel controls with an interface called a PAC SWI-X (sku) with PAC being the manufacturing co.

paper cut out of the size of the button, a sharpie and a dremel sounds like a good combo. I would love to see pics when your done.

Why not just get a head unit with a remote control? Or tape the remote control on the steering wheel. My headunit came with an RC, I stuck a velcro tape behind it and on the dash. This is a temporary thing til I come up with something nicer.

However, for the right kind of $$$ anything is possible. Custom work always cost and is not plug and play.
