Car Overheats with AC ON

I was stuck driving in the traffic towards Holland tunnel and slowly the car started going towards the Hot level. I shut off the AC and it went back to normal temperature. I put it on again numerous times in traffic due to it being so muggy and humid, same result - the car starts over heating. Then on the highway, I had no problems with the ac on full blast. This seems to only happen in traffic with a high load. I will test it again tomorrow if it does the same thing. Coolant level is fine so its some thing related to the AC. I just had the car's AC recharged two days and today was the first time it ever overheated in the 2 years I have owned it.

Any ideas? What should I look for?

That's weird for it to get hotter with the a/c on being that the fans turn on with the a/c. Could be thermostat or radiator. Try doing a radiator flush if it never has been done being that it is a 95 and go from there.

check if the 2nd fan turns on when you hit the AUTO button on your climate control. anytime you turn the AC on, it should kick on in addition to the regular fan.

make sure fan is on, and thermostat is new, also check for leaks, coolant to make sure its fresh and that the system isn't clogged or rust in the radiator.

hmm.

i would check the thermostat. i think i bought mine for no more than $20. i bought my car in the winter, and everytime i stopped the heat would work because the needle rised. but when i drove, the needle would go down n no more heat. to change it, check the haynes manual. you'd have to drain the coolant first, so if you were to change ur coolant, change that temp too.
