drag racing Boo Boo story!!!!

well i went racing last wed night.. And well i thought i blew the ol' 96 max up... I was running the 3 rd time that night, and i hit the nitrouse and away i went i hit the rev limiter at the top of second shooting nitrous, poof a puff of smoke out of my left fender and a loud "pop" well i thought for a second then I put it in third and floored it again shooting nitrous.. 14.36 @ 101.4 ha ha ha...
As i laughed thinking oh well i am trailering it home.. LOl as i am slowing down, the idle is creeping up to the rev limiter again.. i shut it off and coast to get the time slip.. I started it again and there it went again back to the rev limiter, i got a little more speed then shut her off and coasted to my pit stall.. Popping my hood on the way my friend opened it and all we said was "oh your done for the night".. oil all over from the motor back firing out of the intake.. cone filter mushroomed outand unscrewed the cai.. come to find out the mafs screen got stuck in my intake butterfly.. making it goto the rev limiter everytime I started it.. haha we all laughed.. again i started it ran fine... i took filter off, and continued racing.. fastest time i got was a 14.11 @ 102.2 street tires, getting used to nitrous zex wet kit 75 shot.. Waiting till this weekend to install xtd 6 puck clutch i got on ebay for 180 shipped.... I know i'll hit hight 13's.. every time i raced last wed night, i was having to let off the throttle in second and third for the clutch to grab... thinkin of goin to the 100 shot... ?!?!?!?!?!

Did I read that correctly.....you kept racing w/o an air filter??? Do you care about your engine? No engine, no reason for NOS, no more racing. Don't worry about putting a new clutch then.

im almost 100% he means the internal filter inside the MAF...it doesnt do anything because the grate is larger than an air filter. there is no difference at all without the little screen. plus, logically how could an air filter get stuck in the throttle body, it would have to be tiny.

Your nitrous ignited while it was in the intake causing the explosion outward from your intake. Go over your install and the electronics controlling everything. You could cause serious damage if the problem persists.

I really don't think he cares nj, but that's a good suggestion.

If i had the extra ca$$h as you(original poster) stated, I'd blow it for the heck of it and do the 3.5L ...

I think he is trying to blow the engine so that he has a good reason to swap the vq35 in. But if that was me, I'd pull out the existing vq30 while its healthy, put the vq35 in and sell the old motor for extra cash.

I do care now but then i was oh well what can i do?? Now I am very thankful that nothing seriously happened.. I do care for this car, i have 2 max's now and well i am lookin to build a nissan sentra ser old school, or a nx2000 now for a racer.. a hell of alot cheaper to build, and to work on, with the sr20det..

And for you g4nismo, who are you to tell me what i deserve and what i do not???? I put my labor into this car so it could be mine.. I do not PAY people to do things to my car to make it look different in some cases Or did i have the money to buy a car that has someone elses personality, and creation put into it.... But i do everything to this car myself.. I do not take it to get the oil changed, to get detailed, nothing!!! No mechanic touches my car but me.. I am not trying to say that you havent, but it seems that you are stereotyping me as a person that drives a car without care.. And it takes car to build a car from a mangled totaled mess to what i drive now.. Think of it this way, i took this car from this lot in which it was gunna be parted out for little parts we all need LOL!!! And made myself a car in which to drive..

I am for damn sure i do not do this every weekend to try to blow it up, i do care for this car alot, but if the engine goes they can be replaced.. What I am saying is that i rather blow up the motor, and replace it other than.. getting into a car wreck somehow being my fault or not, i would prolly cry, cause i have put so much time into this car.. I bought it as a salvage over a year ago for $1,400 at an insurance auction and had to put in alot of time not really money but time into it... so i would be heart broken if it got totaled again!!!!

Minus all performance mods and cosmetic augmentation, how much did it cost you to restore the car to operating conditions?

well $1,400 for the car totaled....
And i think i worked this all out when i got it done everything including paint and body parts, frame shop i rented for the night.... $3,678.63.... Plus all of my labor.......
..........Priceless
Well see the whole front end was pushed over about 2.5 inches, and nothing was straight like even the engine was in ****-eyed, motor mounts busted.. "It basicly looked like someone ran a red light and hit this car doing about 30-40 mph. on the passenger side of right at the front of the fender" is what the guy at the insurance auction said. i really wish i had the before and after pics.....

Well untill this one lady asked to buy it yesterday for $7,000, but i have to take out nitrous, stereo, speakers, springs, and basicly make it stock again..... She has 3 kids, and needs a family car, and she went to the local dealer and the same year maxima as mine, but it was a se.. and they wanted $9,999... I laughed and said kiddingly "i'd sell you mine for 7 G's and she's like wow why, i said it has a salvaged title, but everything is in new or perfect condition...
