Engine vin #?
Where is the VIN# located at on the engine? I am trying to confirm the year engine that was put in my car. They said it was a '98 but im just making double sure.

It is on a plate on the dashboard. You can read it from the driver's side if you look in the window. I believe its also located inside the driver's door on the right, at least it is on mine. It is also on your bill of sale. Is it on your car insurance?
Why would a 99 Maxima require an engine replacement?
Edit - Half asleep. Now I see where you're coming from. Good luck!

95-99 are all the same engine, rated hp, etc ... the engine code is on the block just under the intake manifold located in the front left (driver side) and reads VQ30DE, but this is the same for all Maxima year models 1995-1999. There's now way you can relate a VIN to an engine unless the company that sold you the egine told you what car it came from with VIN# ,,,

I can't tell exactly, but there are two VIN numbers inside the engine bay near the firewall (right under the cowl). Not sure if either of these are "on the engine" or on the car body. There is an engine serial number on the engine right near where the transmission is bolted to the engine. It is located under the TB on the block. Not sure if its visible from above with all that EGR, vaccum stuff in the way.

I did research the engine i had put in. I had the engine replaced with an engine from a '98 but im just making TRIPLE sure that it is a '98 engine. Call it to ease my mind w/e.

Back to my earlier question, why did the engine need to be replaced in the first place and at what mileage? Lastly, how many miles did they say were on the 98 engine?
The mileage on the installed engine is what is important, it could be a high mileage 98 or a lower mileage 95, what is important is the mileage, not necessarily the year!

the engine has no VIN because the engine is not a VEHICLE....the only thing on our motors is the engine code....there might be a tag somewhere with teh production date but i dunno where it would be..call a dealer and ask

Come on now guys. I was being sarcastic.
My oil leaked out on the way to work and ~poof~ siezed engine. I went and checked the car it was pulled from when i got the engine. But nowadays you really never know with anything you buy regardless. My reasoning for asking was im buying a SC and if for some reason god only knows it turned out to be some crazy year engine and problems arose after i spent mad cash + drove hours to a mechanic, i would not be happy. Just trying to cover all my bases ya know?
Sorry if you think this thread sux.I was just trying to figure some things out. You can delete it if you would like.

I don't know of anywhere the engine has the VIN stamped on it, but the VIN is stamped on transmissions, so the theory about the part not being a "vehicle" thus not having a VIN is incorrect.
I think this thread is just fine btw. Like if you just got the engine from a boneyard, they tell you what year it is but you don't have any way of really knowing. Also there are minor differences, such as a 99 cali spec with swirl valves, or a 96 I30 has a small emissions difference, etc. 99s also require a different supercharger kit than the 95-98s (though I think it's just a different bracket.

Some yards also have small quirks to them. Say the have a certain amount of 4th gens, with engines ranging from 37k miles - 189k, and you get somewhere in between that because they, at times, don't tell you which one you got, but only provide a range.

How recently did you get this engine? Perhaps the car it was pulled from (you know the one you previously saw) is still at the autowrecker and you can go back there and determine the year of the vehicle, read the odometer, take pictures of it, have a seance and come away with a warm and fuzzy feeling!
