Sunroof Help Please.

I posted this in the I30/I35 forum as well, but I think all of those guys are on vacation so I thought I would try here...

So this morning on my way to work, I tried to close my sunroof and the motor would make its usual noise (like it's working) and nothing happened. The sunroof does not move forward to close. I then pulled forward on the sunroof and it will slide forward to the closed position, but the back of it will not push up to make a seal with the roof.

When I stand outside of the car and look down on the sunroof track, and push the sunroof button, I can see the little "grabber" thingy (that I assume should be hooked to the sunroof) move back and fourth, but it is obviously not attached to the sunroof!

Is this something that I can fix myself and if so, how? If not, has anyone had this same experience and how much did it cost to get it fixed at a shop?

Thanks in advance guys!

There is suppost to be a 'screw' type safety bolt you can turn with a tool located with the tools to change the spare tire to fully close the sunroof if the motor fails.

I'm not sure exactly what your problem is, but a similar thing happened to mine last summer. I was told it was a cable by one mechanic, and a switch by another. I kinda broke a latch myself while I was drunk and showing a friend the problem, so I kinda had to replace the whole sunroof assembly. Anyway, a guy quoted me just over $1000 Canadian for the assembly, and another $600 Canadian for installation. He said it would take like 10 hours and 3 guys to do the job. Bull****. I went to the scrap yard, picked up an assembly for $230 Canadian, and spent about 3 hours with a friend putting it in. Another friend came at the end for like 5 minutes to help hold the assembly up. We also took like a 30 minute break. If you have to replace the entire assembly, you can definately do it yourself.
