throwout bearing prob?
hi guys
Alright, so a quick recap ... last month, I had a problem. After some long driving, I came home and as soon as my wheel hit the driveway to park, I hear this *POP* sound and lose half the pressure in the clutch pedal. Didn't see any fluid anywhere ... when I pushed down on the clutch pedal, I would hear a whirring sound and my clutch engages really low and when it does, i'd feel a shuddering.
I did know that my clutch hose has been slowly leaking for the past 2 years and that i'd just fill the clutch resevoir every couple months and it was fine.
OK, so I had a local ORG member (very experienced) replace the slave cylinder and put in a replacement SS clutch hose. That fixed the whirring sound... however the clutch still engaged low and i'd get some of the shuddering. He recommended that I continue driving the car as-is because we felt the problem probably wouldn't worsten or destroy anything else.
so now, 2-3 weeks later, i push in the clutch pedal as im driving and now the pedal won't come back up. It's strange though, it's not like the pedal is all soft or anything. I'd go in half way normally and then snap to the floor. I looked at the hydraulic and didn't see any leaking. I used my hand to "pump" the pedal, and now I see brake fluid around the slave cylinder area.
I called up my friend and he thinks it could be the throwout bearing finally crapping out and the clutch fork is stuck open .. and now i'm thinking that's why the fluid is being "forced" out of the slave cylinder because the clutch is holding open. When i start the car, the metal whirring sound is alot louder and constantly there.
What do you guys think? i'd think the fluid would come back out the clutch resevoir instead of the slave cylinder.
